Dedications
The park is a non-profit organization ran solely by dedicated volunteers. Unfortunately, over the years we have lost some of our most dedicated volunteers including but not limited to…
Henry Cooper was a transplant from Sewickley Pennsylvania, coming to the rural area to enjoy his retirement from teaching. Settling in and buying a farm, he began enjoying the country life. Beekeeping and producing his own honey, vegetable/flower gardening, fitness and spending time with his wife Amy Allen Cooper and beloved pets… Tab, Homes, and Spencer, were just a few of Henry’s hobbies. Sadly in June of 2012, he lost his long battle with cancer. Henry will always be remembered for his commitment and dedication to the park and community. In September of 2012, the park dedicated one of the ponds to his memory, “Coopers Pond”. Arlan Gail “Butch” Birch was a lifelong native of Calhoun County. His biggest joy was music, playing guitar and singing with his friends in the band, Dixie Moon. He loved the Mountains of West Virginia and the West Virginia Mountaineers. He was a patriot who cherished our constitution, having served six years in the U.S. Sadly in February of 2013, he lost his long battle with cancer. Butch will always be remembered for his love of music, and countless hours of dedication to the county and park. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Harry Curry, Benny Jones, Emanuel Hersman, Foster Tuttle, Rick Butt, Duane Poling ,Poe Gunn, Richard Kirby, Kitty Wilson, Herb Smith, and many, many more. Some are among us and some have departed. However the park would like to give recognition to those who have volunteered endless hours to preserving the beauty of Calhoun County.
