Stepping into this sheriff’s election has reinforced a lesson I learned wearing the badge.
Politics often rewards what’s loud and flashy, creating pressure to promote yourself and make appealing promises.
But that’s not the job.
When people call 911, they don’t care about headlines. They care that someone answers, knows what they’re doing, and is committed to protecting them.
I won’t make unrealistic promises or build a campaign on optics over outcomes. The sheriff’s responsibility is simple: protect the people and enforce the law fairly.
Community outreach matters, but it should reflect good policing- not replace it. Deputies should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and accountability every day because it’s the right thing to do.
From the day I pinned on the badge, I was taught that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of race, religion, political beliefs, or income. That is the standard I expect every deputy under my administration to uphold.
The badge isn’t a spotlight-it’s a symbol of service.
My focus is doing the job right, every day, and holding everyone who serves under my administration to that same standard.
That is what getting back to the basics means: a sheriff’s office built on service before recognition, substance before appearances, and protecting the people above everything else.
That is how we keep Granville County safe.
That is the duty of your Sheriff's office.
