STRUCTURE FIRE - Incident Report
Shortly after 3am this morning, Granville Fire was toned out to a box alarm at 16 Blandford Road for a "reported fully engulfed structure fire". Granville Fire and EMS units responded promptly with an engine crew and tanker. Blandford Road and the affected property were just across the street from the fire house where an ominous orange glow could be seen from the road way.
Engine 1 (E1) arrived at the address and laid in approx 1000ft of supply line up the driveway due to its extended distance from the road way. E1 and it's crew made their way up to the affected residence where they confirmed a working structure fire and flames approx 10ft in the air above the roof line. Granville command was able to validate all pets and people made it safe out of the residence. A good portion was already enveloped by the flames and it was spreading fast into the garage and additional parts of the living quarters.
E1 and it's crew moved swiftly to deploy a handline to the delta side of the structure to begin knock down operations. A second handline was deployed to begin attacking the flames now rolling out of the garage door eves. The fire was spreading at a tremendous rate where the entire garage became over taken, command and E1 operator decided to deploy the deck gun. As mutual aid partners began arriving with man power, additional lines were placed to attack different sides of the structure. This was a very fast moving fire and posed many challenges for crews to overcome and they battled the flames for nearly an hour before the majority was knocked down. Making use of Southwick's Ladder Ariel for overhead visibility and attack.
During attack operations , a direct fill relay was established from the Blandford Road pond dry hydrant through a relay pumper and additional tankers at the driveway entrance then up to the scene where an approx total length of 2000ft of supply line was used.
Around 6 am, all visible fire was extinguished and targeted hot spot operations continued. Mutual aid crews were released as needed but Granville crews remained on scene throughout the majority of the day to handle additional hotspots, personal item retrieval, and assistance with the State Fire Marshall. At this time, the cause is still under investigation.
