Granville Township Fire Department The GTFD serves Granville Township including the Village of Granville and Denison University.

Granville is served by the Granville Township Fire Department (GTFD), which is a municipal fire department operated by the Granville Township Board of Trustees. It also serves 80% of McKean Township under a contractual agreement. The department is funded by a 4.8 mill Granville Township fire levy as well as contract fees from McKean Township. The GTFD is staffed with a combination of career, inter

mittently scheduled, and volunteer members. Paid staffing is scheduled to maintain four personnel on duty at all times, twenty-four hours a day. There are currently ten career firefighter/paramedics, fifteen intermittent firefighter/paramedics, and twenty-five volunteer firefighter/EMTs and paramedics. Fire code enforcement is handled by a part-time fire inspector working under the direction of the Fire Chief. The department fleet consists of a 1500 Gallons-Per-Minute (GPM) Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) pumper, a 1200 GPM rescue/pumper, a 93-foot aerial platform, and an 1800 gallon tanker. Additional apparatus consists of two advanced life support ambulances, a grass fire truck, and one staff vehicle. The GTFD operates from a single facility at 500 South Main Street in Granville. The fire station was opened at this new location in October of 2020!

⚠️ Follow-Up: Permanent Generators Need CO Protection Too ⚠️

As we contined to respond on carbon monoxide (CO) emergencies into the night and morning. We wanted to share an additional reminder.

A permanently installed standby generator is a great investment during power outages, but it does not eliminate the risk of CO.

Under certain weather conditions, changing winds, or if doors, windows, or vents are open, CO can still enter your home—even when the generator is installed correctly and operating as designed.

✅ Every home with a standby generator should have working carbon monoxide detectors on every level and outside sleeping areas.
✅ Test your CO alarms regularly and replace batteries as needed.
✅ If a CO alarm sounds, leave the home immediately, move to fresh air, and call 911.

Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and can become life-threatening in minutes. The best defense is a properly installed generator and working CO detectors.

⚠️ **Generator Safety Reminder** ⚠️

If you're without power following yesterday's storms and using a generator, make sure you have working carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in your home.

Remember:

• Never run a generator inside a home or garage.
• Generators should be at least 20 feet from your home, with the exhaust pointed away from doors, windows, and vents.
• If your CO alarm sounds, get outside immediately and call 911.

In the last 12 hours, crews have responded to multiple CO incidents involving generators.

Stay safe, and please check on your neighbors during the outage.

You may have seen our crews conducting rope rescue training last week with our partners at Monroe Township and West Licking. Thanks to Owens Corning Granville for the use of their facilities.

Special shout-out to Firefighter Tommy Klein (photo 1) who is currently halfway through a six month multi-discipline technical rescue training. Tommy will be the eighth full-time firefighter to complete this valuable training.
