Historic Granville, Tennessee 1880 General Store is now a Venue for Bluegrass & Ole Time Music Just a stone's throw from the banks of the Cumberland River stands the Sutton General Store.

Built in the 1880, it continuously served the families of the Granville, Tennessee area until the 1970's. The two story building's unique style features a saloon type balcony. Walking back in time is fun, interesting and educational.Our guest can enjoy a southern style meals featuring the finest in Tennessee Cooking. Since April 2008, the Granville Museum has been proud to host "Sutton Ole Time Mu

sic Hour" at the Sutton General Store. Each Saturday night performances stream worldwide and is syndycated for radio stations in a similar style to the Grand Ole Opry. Granville was the birthplace of Uncle Jimmy Thompson. He was the first performer on the Grand Ole Opry with the Solemn Judge George D. Hay. We have a special exhibit in the museum honoring them with recordings of the first show, a letter from the Grand Ole Opry, Henry Ford giving Thompson an award for performing for the President of the United States at Ford's home and much more.

It's a success! It gives us great pleasure to see visitors and residents enjoying the dock, the pier, and the renewed view of the beautiful Cordell Hull Lake. Granville is pleased to invite you to the ribbon cutting of the NEW courtesy dock and fishing pier on June 12 at 10AM at the site in Veterans Park. We wish to express gratitude to all those who made the possible. TN Tourism Department. Jackson County Mayor's Office, Friends of Cordell Hull Lake, U.S. Corp of Engineers, Granville Community Club, and Historic Granville staff, volunteers, and friends.

Few things are more exciting than showcasing and promoting the fading art of the music from the hills of Jackson County. Bluegrass has echoed from these hills for decades and we are happy to report that it will continue. Please read and congratulate these talented individuals. Saturday, May 23rd was the Uncle Jimmy Thompson Bluegrass Festival (that's a story for another time) and the Ole Time

Saturday, May 31, hear the Smokey Mountain Hollow Bluegrass Band perform at Sutton Ole Time Music Hour. This group makes "big" music and they say that they are just like their Ma's cookin', the best!
