Please Continue To Conserve Water -

With temperatures in the teens again overnight, we ask that everyone continue to drip interior faucets and bathtubs to protect your pipes. Our public works crews continue to work day and night as water leaks occur due to burst pipes. Please conserve water as much as possible. If you are able to wait to do laundry or run your dishwasher, please wait until temperatures are well above freezing.

The following tips are from our Utility Division:

- Grapevine is not under a boil water notice.

- Please continue to make every effort to conserve water.

- When temperatures rise above freezing, please turn off all plumbing fixtures that have been left dripping. This conserves precious water - and every drop counts!

- Try to identify the location of your water meter box now and expose it if you are able to do so. This will save valuable time if you develop a major leak in the future. There is no need to open the box unless you are turning your water off. Never leave open meter boxes unattended. Accidentally stepping into an open meter box can cause serious injury.

- If you attempt to shut off your own water (in the event of a leak in your home), please be sure you are turning the valve in a CLOCKWISE direction.

- If the valve is stuck, do not force it, wait for City staff to arrive. If the shut-off valve is broken when we arrive, it will take our staff much longer to get the water turned off.

- in the event of a water leak (burst pipe) in your home, please call 817.410.8127.

A message from City of Grapevine Texas:

What We Know -

There are currently 717 customers in Grapevine without power. Yesterday morning that number was close to 10,000. We expect this number to decrease throughout today - although some homes that had power may temporarily lose power in order to put those homes that have been off for an extended period back onto the system.

The Governor has added electric reliability as an emergency item to the current Texas legislative session to explore ways to prevent this from happening in the future. We will advocate on behalf of our residents to the legislature on this issue.

It is still important to continue to conserve electricity, gas, and water to help our neighbors.

What We Are Doing -

Responding to Emergency Calls:
Emergency Calls are up tenfold, with many being due to alarm calls for busted pipes, slip and fall injuries, while still responding to regular calls for service.

Operating a Warming Shelter:
Several hundred of our neighbors have taken advantage of the warming shelter to sleep, shower, get a hot meal, or just charge their cell phones. We are also providing transportation to the shelter.

Working to Clear Our Streets & Keep Water Flowing:
Our public works crews have been sanding highly traveled areas nightly in order to improve street conditions. In addition, they have been working with first responders to identify and turn off water main breaks and turn off water in locations where water suppression system pipes burst. We have also opened a water cross-connection with the City of Southlake, as their water system has been impacted by power outages.

Checking In On Our Most Vulnerable Residemts:
The Grapevine Police and Fire Department’s went door-to-door to check on people that we knew may need help and we have been in constant contact with our nursing homes and Baylor Scott & White - Grapevine.

Enacting an Emergency Declaration:
This document is important because it triggers the opportunity for FEMA funding in the event that were to become available.

Communication:
We have used Code Red, including a message from Mayor William D. Tate to check on your neighbors and remind our residents of the operation of the warming shelter.

Well, add dishes by candlelight to the list of lengths at which staff will go to make sure the animals are cared for. Not pictured, scrubbing kennels and all kinds of other stuff by flashlight 🔦.

Grapevine animals continue to be housed out of Coppell Animal Services. Normal operations will resume as soon as reasonably possible.

We've got some reminders for you as we care for our pets during the cold weather.

* If your dog has short hair, or seems affected by cold weather, try a dog sweater or coat when they go outside.
* Make sure pets (and sweaters) are dry.
* Salt and snowmelt can damage paws. Wipe down feet and check paws for signs of cracked pads or bleeding.
* Never leave pets alone in cars, and limit travel during extreme weather.
* Add pet food and a collapsible water bowl to your emergency kit.
* Tap on your hood before starting your vehicle. Warm engines can attract cats and small animals.

We hope your pets are safe and snug inside with you. Remember, if it's too cold for you to be outside, it's too cold for them, too. If you have to go on a walk, be sure to wipe their paws and stomach when you get home (to remove any salt or chemicals.) #SafeLovingHumane

We heard today is National #InspireYourHeartWithArt day and immediately thought of our new Grapevine Animal Services logo. We included a heart in the design because of our love for animals, both domestic and wild. Not only are our workers compassionate about animals - we also inspire our community to care for and appreciate them, too. We hope you have a day full of hearts and love with your favorite animal. #SafeLovingHumane

Our “assistants” sometimes make it to clean up roadkill before we do. They have an amazing sense of smell, which is unusual for most avians; their olfactory lobe is a lot larger than other animals’. Did you know the turkey vultures, like many other species of vulture, are an important part of the ecosystem? They dispose of carrion which would otherwise become a breeding ground for disease!

Lost Pet. Rusty got out of my car yesterday unnoticed on 121 N just past the Mustang Exit when I stopped in the wide area there to check on some cargo that shifted in my auto. We have searched for hours but found nothing. He has a blue color with his vets # in AR but they are closed until Monday. Please call me at 870-406-0248 if you see him. He and I have been visiting my daughter in Grapevine and we were heading back to AR.
I have neighbor who’s dogs bark every time I go into my back yard. The one big dog will body slam the fence trying to get at us. Do I report this to you all or the police? The neighbor does not seem to want to address the dogs barking. I hate to report, but I am scared the big dog will break through the fence and come after me and my dog. They are renting, should I go to the landlord 1st.
Wanted to post an updated picture of Bill and Ted that we adopted from the shelter last year. They are doing well and have recovered from being thrown out with the trash by their previous owners. They are happy and healthy. Thank you for the opportunity to have them join our family.

Found dog In Bellaire st grapevine. Please message me if you know him . Will be taking him to animal shelter
I found this sweet boy walking in the middle of the road this morning at Oak Grove Park at Lake Grapevine. He was very friendly, no collar, and was hot, tired and very thirsty. I stayed with him for a while, hoping that someone would come along looking for him. A couple of Grapevine police officers came by and took him to Coppell animal services, since Grapevine is still under construction. If you’ve lost your pup, or recognize him, he’s in Coppell. ❤️🐾
I spotted this dog running on 2499 next to Grapevine Mills Mall this afternoon. I called Animal Services # and also left a message on messenger.
We adopted this handsome boy 2 1/2 yrs. ago at this shelter. This is Bo today, a happy and loving boy.
