☀️Summertime = water fun: in pools, sprinklers, or at the beach. It’s important to take precautions and do what you can to keep your children safe.

Here’s what you can do:

-Assign a parent to supervise: when with a group of adults, assign one person to constantly watch the water without distractions, such as reading or using a phone. Rotate this responsibility every 15 to 30 minutes.

-Teach children to stay away from drains and other openings that cause suction.

-Use water diapers for small children.

-Wear protective footwear, and avoid running on wet surfaces to prevent slipping.

-Don’t use swimsuits that are the same color as the water, as it’s hard to see them.

-Stay within arm’s reach of toddlers at all times.

-Remember that any child can get hurt or otherwise require assistance in the water, despite wearing a floatation device, having taken swimming lessons, or being placed in a bath seat or ring. These items/circumstances are never a substitute for constant adult supervision.

-Empty tubs, buckets, containers, and kids’ pools immediately after use. Store them upside down and out of children’s reach.

-Learn CPR and basic water rescue skills. It’s important to know how to respond in an emergency without putting yourself at risk.
