In the early morning hours of August 11, Placer County Sheriffโ€™s Office deputies responded to an armed robbery at a gas station in Colfax.

The victim reported that a man entered the gas station and left with alcohol without paying. When the victim confronted him, the suspect pulled out a large pistol and pointed it at the victim before leaving the area in a silver sedan.

As the vehicle left Placer County, deputies used Automated License Plate Reader technology to identify the vehicle and issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Deputies learned that the suspect and vehicle were known to officers with the Grass Valley Police Department. Grass Valley officers assisted Placer County Sheriffโ€™s Office Crimes Against Persons detectives with locating additional evidence and ultimately located the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Joshua Paulin Jr. of Nevada County, along with the vehicle in Grass Valley.
Detectives served search warrants and recovered a firearm and additional evidence from the vehicle and from Paulin.

Paulin was arrested and booked into the Nevada County Jail on an outstanding Sacramento County warrant. Placer County detectives subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Paulin in connection with the Colfax robbery.

Paulin will be transferred to Placer County once his commitment in Sacramento County is complete, where he will face charges related to the robbery.
