🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day, Grass Valley!

Today is a day to recognize the people whose hard work keeps our community moving every day.

From our Public Works crews maintaining streets, parks, water and sewer systems, to our Police and Fire personnel keeping our community safe, to the administrative staff working behind the scenes to serve our residents, we’re proud of the dedicated people who show up every day for Grass Valley.

And today, we extend that appreciation beyond City Hall to all of the workers throughout our community who help make Grass Valley the place we’re proud to call home.

Thank you for all that you do, and we hope everyone enjoys a safe and restful Labor Day! 🇺🇸

City Hall is closed today in observance of the holiday and will reopen Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.

As we head into the long weekend, we hope everyone has a chance to relax, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy all that our community has to offer.

However you choose to spend your weekend, please celebrate responsibly, travel safely, and look out for one another.

🌧️ Rain is on the way, Grass Valley!

With rain in the forecast for tonight, now is a good time for a few quick rainy-weather reminders.

After a long stretch of dry weather, roads can be especially slick when the rain first starts. Remember to slow down, turn on your headlights and give yourself a little extra stopping distance.

Around your home or property, take a few minutes to clear leaves, pine needles and other debris from gutters and storm drains to help keep water flowing where it’s supposed to.

And if you’re out enjoying our trails after the rain, watch your step on wet leaves and pavement. 🍂

📸 A rainy day on the Condon Park Trail

𝗔 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗹𝗳 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘆𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.
At approximately 8:15 a.m. on August 31, a 125-foot hazardous pine tree unexpectedly snapped at its base and fell across the Wolf Creek Trail, narrowly missing walkers who had passed through the area just moments before.

Wildfire Fuels Crew staff funded through Measure B/OES responded within minutes of the incident being reported. Crews quickly got to work removing the tree and clearing the trail, allowing it to safely reopen to the public before 10:30 a.m.

Thankfully, no one was injured. A big thank you to everyone involved for the quick response and for helping keep this well-used community trail safe and accessible.

🚧 PARKING LOT CLOSURE ALERT | SEPTEMBER 1–3

Downtown parking lots will be temporarily closed for pavement striping work this week. Work is scheduled between 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM each day.

Tuesday, Sept. 1: Church Street Parking Lot
Wednesday, Sept. 2: Church Street & City Hall Parking Lots
Thursday, Sept. 3: City Hall Parking Lot

Please observe posted signs and follow the direction of onsite crews. The schedule is subject to change based on work conditions.

Summer isn’t over yet! ☀️💦

We shared the September schedule for Memorial Park Pool earlier this week, but thought you might need a little extra motivation to squeeze in another pool day!

The pool is heated, and the kids’ pool is perfect for younger swimmers, with a shallow walk-in area, depths up to 4 feet, and plenty of fun water features.

Before you officially switch into fall mode, there’s still time for a few more pool days. ☀️🏊

🏊 September at Memorial Park Pool

The September pool schedule is here! As we head into the final weeks of the season, there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy Memorial Park Pool, including lap swim, open swim, water fitness classes and more.

Memorial Park Pool is managed by the Gold Country YMCA, and we’re grateful for their continued partnership in keeping this community resource active and offering a variety of aquatic opportunities. In addition to the public swim and fitness hours shown on the schedule, the pool also serves local swim teams, practices, meets, classes and other aquatic programming throughout the season.

Balancing all of these uses within one facility takes a lot of coordination, and we appreciate the YMCA staff, coaches, swimmers and community members who help make it possible.

Friday Night Lights, Grass Valley edition! ⚽️💡

Gold Country United officially kicked off the first game under the new field lights at Lyman Gilmore last Friday!

There’s something pretty special about seeing the field lit up and full of players for the first time. These new lights mean more opportunities for evening practices, games, and community recreation right here in Grass Valley.
