🚧 SR-174 CLOSED DUE TO MAJOR INJURY CRASH 🚧

Today at approximately 3:57 p.m., CHP Grass Valley received a report of a solo-vehicle crash on southbound SR-174, just south of Peardale Road.
Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed for an unknown reason and collided with a large tree. The adult male driver sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
As a result of the crash, the tree has been significantly compromised and is at risk of falling onto the roadway. Caltrans has an arborist crew en route to inspect and assess the tree before it can be safely removed or stabilized.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE 🚧

SR-174 is currently closed in the southbound direction between Peardale Road and You Bet Road.
🔄 Motorists are advised to use Lower Colfax Road as an alternate route. (No commercial vehicles/big rigs.)
At this time, there is no estimated time for the roadway to reopen. We will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as emergency personnel and Caltrans crews work to safely clear the scene and restore the roadway.

🚨 Have you seen 🧐 this car lately? 🚨

Over the past several months, the driver of this vehicle has been reported numerous times throughout the region for reckless driving, including passing over double yellow lines, performing donuts, and engaging in dangerous driving behaviors that put both himself and the motoring public at risk.

Recently, CHP Grass Valley officers conducted an investigation, identified the driver of this Chevrolet Camaro, and placed him under arrest for reckless driving.

During the investigation, officers also discovered a loaded concealed firearm inside the vehicle. The driver was booked into the county jail for numerous charges and his vehicle was impounded.

Reckless driving doesn't just endanger the driver—it puts everyone sharing the roadway at risk. Thanks to community members 👏 who reported this dangerous behavior, officers were able to locate the driver and take enforcement action before someone was seriously injured.

If you observe a reckless driver, call 9-1-1 ☎️ and be prepared to provide:
• Your location 📍
• The roadway and direction of travel 🛣️
• A vehicle description 🚗
• License plate number, if safely possible 🔎

Bring your whole family to Nevada County's Health, Safety and Fire Preparedness 21st Annual Carnival, located at the Rood Administrative Center this Saturday June 6th, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Today, Lieutenant Dubendorf attended the CHP Academy graduation and had the privilege of welcoming our newest officer to the Grass Valley Area.
