We are in the red zone ๐Ÿ”ด

Red Flag warning that includes Kanabec County.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 26 counties in parts of central and northwest Minnesota, effective today, May 8, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. due to low relative humidity and high winds.

Impacted counties include Becker, Benton, Big Stone, Cass, Chippewa, Clay, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Kanabec, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Mahnomen, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pope, Sherburne, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, and Wilkin.

When a Red Flag Warning is in effect:
๐Ÿšซ Don't burn brush or yard waste.

โš ๏ธ Be careful with any outdoor activity that can cause heat or sparks. Metal from yard equipment that hits a rock could create a spark. Park vehicles and ATVs on gravel or pavement to avoid the hot exhaust systems heating nearby tall grass.

โ—๏ธ Campfires are discouraged during a Red Flag warning. If you do have a campfire, follow proper campfire safety tips: clear any flammable items 5 feet around the campfire area, keep it contained in a fire ring, keep it small, always attend your fire, and put it out COLD. If itโ€™s too hot to touch, itโ€™s too hot to leave.

04/20/2026

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 66 counties across Minnesota, effective today, April 20, until 8 p.m., due to extreme fire risk conditions. This DOES include Kanabec County.

A Red Flag Warning means fires can spread quickly and grow out of control under the predicted weather conditions, including strong winds with high gusts, and low relative humidity.

RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM THIS EVENING

A red flag warning has been issued for much of Minnesota due to the extreme risk for fire throughout the state, including kanabec and surrounding counties. The warning is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. due to the predicted forecast, which includes rising temperatures, strong winds and low humidity.

Any fires that develop will spread rapidly.
No open burning is allowed, and permits are not activated per the MN DNR.

As we know, Grasston has had multiple fires in the last year. We ask that you please pay attention to warnings to avoid any further damages, as well as risking the safety of yourself and Neighbors.
