We all have been Sharing Shop Local, Spend your Dollar Local. Our Bollinger County Chamber Of Commerce promotes Shop Local, While the Bollinger County Chamber Of Commerce has not voiced support for this local Company to get the Bid for the Marble Hill Trash Service, attached to this post, you will see a multitude of businesses and business owners that support the city accepting the bid for Southern Solid Waste to provide Trash Service for the City of Marble Hill. So, I thought I would share this information so that maybe others can join and voice their support for this local Company that employs folks from our community, pays Taxes to the municipalities in the City, Buy their Fuel from Local Gas stations in the City, Sponsor multiple events in and around this city
On Monday at 6 pm, the 20th of May, the Marble Hill City Council will meet, on the agenda for that meeting is to award the contract for Trash Services for the Whole City of Marble Hill. This will be a five-year Contact. 3 companies put in bids for that Contract: Waste Connections, Southern Solid Waste, and Republic. While Waste Connections came in at the lowest bid, we now have a Local Company, Southern Solid Waste, that also put in a very competitive bid. They were not the lowest, but they were also not the highest, they came in right in the middle. My post asks those who live in the City Limits to let their voices be known to the City Council and the Mayor. If you have the opportunity to show up for the meeting to share your support for this local company, you can take a moment to call your Alderman or the Mayor to let them know the Cheapest company is not always the best company to do business with. Waste Connections came in at the lowest bid. They are a nationwide company with way more resources and funding than our local Southern Solid Waste company. In my opinion, Waste Connections does not have the best intentions for Bollinger County or the City of Marble Hill. They look at it all as Dollar Signs to their Corp Executives and such. For over 20 plus years, I had Pete Tanner Waste Dumpster at our farm in the Grassy area. When Tanners sold out to Waste Connections, we had no other option but to stay with them if I wanted to continue to have a trash service. Then 5 years ago, on a Friday afternoon, I received a call from Waste Connections informing me that they were discontinuing the route for trash service I was on, I asked when would this be effective, and I was told that the pick-up the day before was my last scheduled pick-up, but feel free to fill it till they picked up the dumpster. Wow, I was, for a better word, flabbergasted; how do you discontinue someone's service like that in our rural area with no notice, no nothing? While on the call, I also asked about my monthly payment that I had just made to them through Autopay at my bank; I was informed that I would receive a prorated refund, but to this date, I have never received a refund from them. This is not the type of Company you want providing a much needed service in our Community. We need to Support Our Local Businesses before we support Large mega Corporations
