Good evening!! It is an exciting time of year – the start of a new school year!
Each new school year brings many firsts. While it may be the first year of school for a Kindergartener or a first time in the flow of traffic, we understand there will be some fear(s) or apprehension the first few days.
With this new beginning, we wanted to share a few reminders to help make the start of the school year successful for everyone:
1) Patience and Planning:
a. As many of you know, it takes a couple weeks to get traffic flowing smoothly; please be sure to leave with ample time to make it through the traffic and be patient.
b. Plan ahead, know the established traffic routes for drop-off and pick-up. Please be sure to approach the drop-off points from the appropriate direction to help with traffic flow (see maps).
2) Seatbelts and Car Seats:
a. Arkansas Code § 27-34-104 requires children under the age of 15 to be properly secured in a passenger restraint system and a child, who is less than six (6) years of age and who weighs less than sixty pounds (60 lbs.) shall be restrained in a child passenger safety seat.
3) Cell Phones:
a. Arkansas Code § 27-51-1609: a driver of a motor vehicle shall not use a handheld wireless telephone while operating motor vehicle when passing a school building or school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the building.
4) School Buses:
a. Arkansas Code § 27-51-1004: when a school bus stops and displays its alternating red warning lights…Every operator of a motor vehicle or motorcycle meeting or overtaking the school bus from any direction shall [come] to a complete stop not less than thirty feet (30’) before reaching the school bus. The operator of the motor vehicle or motorcycle shall not start up or attempt to pass in any direction until the school bus has finished…and is in motion again.
5) Speed:
a. Arkansas Code § 27-51-212: the maximum speed limit in a school zone is 25 Miles Per Hour (mph).
6) Passing and Traffic Control Devices:
a. Arkansas Code § 27-52-103: The driver of a motor vehicle or operator of a streetcar shall obey the instructions of any official traffic control device – follow all official signs, signals, markings, and/or the instructions of a law enforcement officer.

We would like to express our appreciation to Harps for hosting a fundraiser for the Police and Fire Departments. With great support from our awesome community, enough was raised to purchase a bullet proof vest for an officer. Additionally, Harps donated several cases of water to keep our officers hydrated throughout the Gravette Day festivities this Saturday.

We are extremely thankful for the continuous support from this great community!

We would like to share a recognition the Police Department recently received. We are proud of the work our officers do to ensure the lost pets in our community find their way home. We'd like to recognize Officer Mullen for leading the Animal Control Division and achieving this designation.

SOLICITOR'S NOTICE:
Good morning, Gravette! Please be informed that the pictured, Rusne Vainiunaite, will be in the area this week selling educational books on behalf of Southwestern Advantage. Ms. Rusne has successfully completed the necessary requirements to obtain a City of Gravette solicitor's permit, checked in with us, and has proper identification available.

The Gravette PD responded to an incident on Eagle Drive this evening (7/6/26), the neighborhood likely saw an increase in Law Enforcement personnel for a short period. While this is an ongoing investigation there are limited details to be released, but at this time the incident has been resolved and there are no additional threats or concerns.

It is with a heavy hearty that we share the passing of our dear friend and brother in law enforcement, Captain Chris Kelly of the Centerton Police Department and Benton County Sheriff's Office LT.

We offer our prayers and support to his family in this time of mourning.

Our law enforcement family is mourning the loss of a truly remarkable man.

After many years of dedicated service, Chris Kelley, a longtime Deputy Sheriff with the Benton County Sheriff's Office, (Reserve Lieutenant), and Captain with the Centerton Police Department, has passed away.

He was more than a badge and a uniform. He was a respected leader, a trusted mentor, a loyal friend, a devoted husband, and a servant to his community. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to others left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

He led with integrity, treated people with respect, and earned the admiration of colleagues, friends, and community members alike. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched throughout his career and beyond.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who served alongside him during this difficult time.

Thank you for your service, your friendship, and the example you set for so many. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Rest easy, brother. We have the watch from here.
