🐯STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MEET MISS MAYCEE EDGAR!🐯

This year we welcomed a familiar face back to the Little Tigers Early Learning Center, Miss Maycee Edgar! This year Miss Edgar joins us in her new role as an Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) teacher. Previously, she was a paraprofessional at the Little Tigers building.

A Versailles native, Miss Edgar has studied Early Childhood Education while a student at Central Methodist University. Miss Edgar says, Mrs. Kaitlyn Nelson, our Versailles High School Assistant Principal, played an important role in inspiring her to become a teacher.

"Mrs. Kaitlyn Nelson is the biggest reason I went into education. She taught me that every student can succeed when they have the right support, guidance, and encouragement."

Outside of school, Miss Edgar enjoys spending time with her family, watching movies, and relaxing at home. A few of her favorite include Cherry Limeade from Sonic and Air Head Extremes.

She is excited to continue supporting our youngest Tigers. We are excited to have Miss Edgar in her new role and look forward to the care and encouragement she will bring to our Little Tigers!

The Little Tigers Early Learning Center (LTELC) Open House for ECSE and Preschool students will be held on Wednesday, August 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to:
- Meet teachers and staff
- Visit classrooms and bring school supplies
- Learn about daily routines and expectations
- Ask questions before the first day of school

We look forward to welcoming our newest Little Tigers and their families for a fun and exciting start to the school year! 🐯

Morgan County R-II Awarded More Than $1.18 Million 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant

The Morgan County R-II School District has been awarded a five-year 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant worth up to $1,187,060 to support expanded after-school programming through June 30, 2031.

The district has been awarded up to $237,412 for the first year of the grant. Funding is provided through a reimbursement process, allowing approved grant funds to support eligible program costs.

Through this grant, Morgan County R-II will launch A.I.M. (Academic Intervention & Mentoring), a 21st CCLC program designed to provide students in grades K-12 with additional support beyond the traditional school day. A.I.M. will offer mentoring, tutoring, homework assistance, and academic support in language arts, reading, math, and core curriculum, along with engaging enrichment activities.

"This is tremendous news for our students, families, and community," said Superintendent Dr. Bryan Pettengill. "This grant provides us with an opportunity to expand learning beyond the school day in a fiscally responsible manner. We are excited about the opportunities this creates for our students over the next five years."

Pettengill also recognized Ms. Becki Kempf for her work on the grant application. "Ms. Kempf dedicated countless hours to researching program requirements, writing the application, coordinating community partners, and facilitating every aspect of the process. This grant simply would not have happened without her work."

Planning for A.I.M. is already underway for the 2026-2027 school year.

At this time, program hours are planned for:
- Mondays: 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
- Tuesdays–Thursdays: 3:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.

Transportation for students participating is currently tentative and will depend on the availability of bus drivers. Additional information regarding enrollment, program offerings, and transportation will be shared with families as plans are finalized.

The district looks forward to partnering with students, families, staff, and community members to provide expanded learning opportunities that support student success.

The Morgan County R-II School District will use snow routes this afternoon (Wednesday, January 28) and tomorrow morning (Thursday, January 29). Conditions will be reassessed before tomorrow afternoon, and any updates regarding use of snow routes for the remainder of the week will be communicated through district communication channels.
