Rain and thunderstorm chances will persist each day across all of north and central Georgia. The main hazards from any thunderstorms will be localized flash flooding and gusty-to-damaging winds.

WHERE & WHEN:
Friday Afternoon and Evening (12pm - 12am)
North Georgia, with special focus in the north/northeast Georgia mountains for flash flooding risks.

⛈️ BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT / OVERVIEW:
Ongoing showers and thunderstorms in northern AL/southern TN will continue to gradually push into far north Georgia over the next couple of hours with a general decrease in intensity through late morning.
Storms are then expected to redevelop and intensify in north Georgia by mid to late afternoon and gradually drop southward into the evening and overnight hours.
A Flood Watch is in effect for much of north Georgia 4 PM today - 8 AM tomorrow. Training storms will likely lead to locally heavy rainfall totals over 2-4" in some spots.
The severe thunderstorm risk peaks by late afternoon into tonight. Damaging wind gusts as well as a few tornadoes are the primary concerns with the risk for a strong tornado not out of the question, especially in western GA.
Attached is a hi-resolution model solution that shows the general expected progression of thunderstorm coverage today into late evening. Don't focus on exact timing/location but note how storms initially redevelop across north Georgia before slowly pushing southward this evening.

💥 IMPACTS:
Despite ongoing drought conditions, heavy rainfall amounts would lead to rapid runoff and the risk for flash flooding.
Street flooding could lead to dangerous travel conditions, especially Wednesday night into Thursday morning when darkness will obscure water-covered roadways.
Some smaller local creeks/streams could rise out of their banks.
Damaging wind gusts could down trees and power lines, leading to some power outages.
There is the risk for a few tornadoes, any of which could cause damage to trees, power lines, and structures. *A strong tornado capable of producing more substantial damage cannot be ruled out.*
