Jeff Paul, Ed Tyler, and Tyler Harding received awards for outstanding care to patients on calls. Jeff Paul received his award for a childbirth call, along with Francisco Garcia, Jin Kwon, and Matt Williams (Not pictured). Ed and Tyler received their award for caring for a patient who was having a stroke. Spencer Strom, Pat O'Connor, and Frankie Concialdi (Not Pictured) were also awarded.

Here is an interesting look at the numbers behind Public Safety.

Over a 30-year career, a firefighter on a 24/48 shift puts in nearly 10 additional years of work hours (9.8 years) compared to a standard 40-hour employee.

Those hours add up fast and that's before counting late calls, voluntary overtime, or being mandated to stay over to keep the station staffed.

What an incredible day at Grayslake Central! A massive THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support the First Annual Local 4977 Benevolence Dodgeball Tournament. The energy in the gym was electric, and the competition was even better!

After a hard fought day on the court, we have our champion!

🥇 CONGRATULATIONS to Niles FD “Dodging Balls, Not Calls” for taking home the 2026 Championship Belt! 🏆

• 17 Teams stepped up to compete.
• Tons of spectators brought the noise.
• Countless memories made for a great cause.

The brackets are set, the rubber is ready to fly, and the belt is officially in the building! We are less than one week out from the Local 4977 Benevolence Dodgeball Tournament!

Whether you’re coming to dominate the court or cheer from the stands, your presence makes a massive impact!

🤝 WHY WE PLAY
Every dollar raised goes directly to the Grayslake Local 4977 Benevolence Fund. This fund allows us to show up for our community and our members when it matters most by:

• Feeding Families: Supporting local food drives to fight hunger.

• Holiday Giving: Providing gifts and support for local families during Christmas.

• Supporting Our Own: Assisting brothers and sisters who are out on injury and facing financial hardship.

The AFFI is saddened to learn of the passing of active DeKalb Fire Fighters Local 1236 Member Juan Gasca who died off-duty on April 6th.
Although this is not an official activation, Brother Gasca was as an active member of his local and the AFFI Honor Guard.
