The Grayson Fire Department has been aiding the Kentucky State Police, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Carter County Emergency Management in the missing person search at Grayson Lake. The Department has used city response boats to aid in canine search efforts, and to run sonar. The city does have the ability to conduct dive searches through our dive team, but agencies in command are using their own resources at this time. The Department has worked diligently to be prepared for events such as these. We thank them for their readiness, and their efforts to participate in this search.

Our police officers often do dangerous, fast-paced work, and they must make immediate decisions on the scene of an incident. And, like all police, they're often second-guessed. Recently, some YouTube commentators have criticized the work of a former Grayson officer. In one instance, a young woman acting as a designated drive called 911 for help. When a very intoxicated male passenger refused to get out of her car, our officers responded. The footage shows what they encountered at 3AM, the chances they gave the man to comply, and the conduct they finally had to address. Police must deal with everyone, including very drunk people who refuse to listen. The drunk person later admitted to -- and was convicted for -- his criminal actions.

In another case, a person involved in a two-car incident fled the scene before later returning. He showed indications of impaired driving, such as leaving the scene of an accident, his initial refusal of breath testing, nervousness, and unsatisfactory field sobriety test responses. He also refused a blood test. The driving under the influence charge was dismissed but the original charge of Leaving the Scene of An Accident, a Class A Misdemeanor, resulted the judge placing the man in a pre-trial diversion program. After three months of satisfaction of conditions, it will be dismissed. After instances like this, we always review the situation for how we can improve because we know we can always do better.

Because we want to be transparent about the work our police do, we've posted videos of each instance that shows the full story of what actually happened.
