The partnership between the City of Graysville and Rhea County has continued to grow stronger, and we look forward to building upon that relationship with our newly elected officials. Strong communication, collaboration, and networking between local governments and public safety agencies are essential to creating positive outcomes for the communities we serve.

🚨 GRAYSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT — PRESS RELEASE 🚨

August 29, 2026 — Graysville, Tennessee

On August 29, 2026, a Graysville Police Department officer was on patrol in the City of Graysville when he observed a gray Ford Fusion traveling northbound on Cranmore Cove Road.

The driver was identified as Jacob Dyaln Janow. Officers had prior knowledge that Janow’s Tennessee driver’s license was revoked and that he had an active warrant for his arrest out of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, for burglary.

As Lt. David Kite turned around to conduct a traffic stop and activated his emergency equipment, Janow accelerated and began attempting to flee from the officer. Janow passed another vehicle while crossing double yellow lines and continued to accelerate.

Lt. Kite pursued the vehicle, which reached speeds of approximately 105–110 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone. During the pursuit, Janow crossed into the opposing lane of travel before returning to his lane while continuing to refuse commands to stop.

Janow eventually attempted to turn onto Lower Cove Loop Road. Due to the excessive speed at which he was traveling, he was unable to negotiate the turn and struck a guardrail head-on, causing significant damage and totaling the vehicle.

Following the crash, Janow exited the vehicle with his hands raised. Lt. Kite drew his duty weapon and gave Janow commands to get on the ground. Janow complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

There were two passengers inside the vehicle. They were identified as Megan Goodwin, the front-seat passenger, and Michael Floyd, the rear-seat passenger. Both passengers complied with officers’ commands to exit the vehicle.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene. Goodwin refused medical treatment, while Floyd was transported to a local hospital by EMS for evaluation.

Due to the crash occurring during a pursuit, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was requested to respond and investigate the collision.

A records check through dispatch confirmed Janow’s Tennessee driver’s license was revoked due to DUI and that he had an active warrant from Soddy-Daisy for burglary. The Ford Fusion was registered to Goodwin, who was also a passenger in the vehicle.

Both passengers advised officers that they had repeatedly told Janow to stop the vehicle during the pursuit, but he refused to do so.

Janow was transported to the Rhea County Jail without further incident.

Janow was charged with:

• Evading Arrest
• Driving on a Revoked License — DUI
• Speeding
• Driving on Roadways Laned for Traffic
• Reckless Endangerment — 2 Counts
• Failure to Exercise Due Care

This incident occurred within the City of Graysville.

The Graysville Police Department would like to remind the public that fleeing from law enforcement puts not only the suspect and officers at risk, but also innocent motorists and passengers. Traveling at speeds exceeding 100 MPH on public roadways creates an extreme danger to everyone in the area.

🚔 GRAYSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT — TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO NARCOTICS ARREST

On August 25, 2026, officers with the Graysville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford Mustang traveling on Sixth Street within the City of Graysville.

During the investigation, officers identified the driver, Cayla Miles, and confirmed through dispatch that her Tennessee driver license was currently suspended for failure to pay fines. Officers also detected the odor of ma*****na coming from inside the vehicle.

During the investigation, Miles consented to a search of the vehicle. While officers were attempting to take Miles into custody, she resisted officers’ attempts to secure her and a brief physical struggle occurred. Officers were able to safely place her into handcuffs without further incident.

After being advised of her Miranda rights, Miles agreed to speak with officers and admitted that illegal narcotics were inside her purse. A subsequent search resulted in the recovery of:

🔹 Approximately 3.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine
🔹 Approximately 1.8 grams of suspected ma*****na
🔹 A metal grinder containing suspected ma*****na residue
🔹 $862 in U.S. currency

The suspected methamphetamine and ma*****na will be submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for laboratory testing.

The vehicle and currency were seized in connection with the narcotics investigation pending further proceedings.

Miles was transported to the Rhea County Jail without further incident. She faces charges related to the possession of suspected narcotics and driving while her license was suspended. Additional charges may be pending based upon the results of the investigation and laboratory testing.

The Graysville Police Department remains committed to proactive enforcement and removing illegal narcotics from our community. Our officers will continue to identify and investigate criminal activity throughout the City of Graysville.

August 10, 2026

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO SUSPECTED METHAMPHETAMINE SEIZURE

GRAYSVILLE, Tenn. — On Monday, August 10, 2026, an officer with the Graysville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a white Ford Fusion displaying a Tennessee temporary registration tag that was expired and partially illegible.

During the course of the traffic stop, the officer made contact with the occupant of the vehicle and continued the investigation. A consensual search was subsequently conducted.

During the search, the officer located a substance believed to be methamphetamine inside a purse belonging to Taylor N. Jones. Jones was subsequently taken into custody in connection with the suspected narcotics.

The suspected substance was seized as evidence and will be submitted for appropriate testing.

“This is another example of how proactive traffic enforcement can lead to the detection of more serious criminal activity,” said Graysville Police Chief Bean. “What may begin as a routine traffic violation can quickly develop into something more. Our officers will continue working proactively to identify and remove illegal narcotics from our community.”

🚔 TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO NARCOTICS ARREST

On August 20, 2026, officers with the Graysville Police Department were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 27 within the city limits of Graysville when they observed a white Dodge pulling a utility trailer traveling southbound. Officers observed the male driver not wearing a seatbelt and initiated a traffic stop in the area of 865 Rhea County Highway.

During the investigation, officers developed additional concerns and requested Sgt. Billy Lankford and K9 Sniper respond to the scene to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle.

K9 Sniper alerted to the presence of narcotics on the passenger side of the vehicle. A probable-cause search was subsequently conducted.

Officers located:

• Seven pink pills identified as 10mg Oxycodone (Schedule II controlled substance)
• Approximately 8.6 grams of suspected ma*****na

The driver, identified as Jason Owens, was taken into custody and transported to the Rhea County Jail without further incident.

Owens is facing charges of:

🔹 Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance — T.C.A. § 39-17-417
🔹 Simple Possession — T.C.A. § 39-17-418

All suspected narcotics seized during the investigation will be submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) for further testing.

DETECTIVE COMPLETES PRESTIGIOUS TBI BASIC CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR SCHOOL

The Graysville Police Department is proud to announce that Detective Sharp has successfully graduated from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Basic Criminal Investigator School, an intensive two-week advanced investigative program hosted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The school provides detectives from across Tennessee with specialized instruction in the fundamental and advanced principles of criminal investigations. Over the course of the program, Detective Sharp received extensive training in:

•Crime scene investigation and evidence collection
•Search warrants and Fourth Amendment law
•Homicide investigations
•Overdose death investigations
•Digital forensics and iCloud data retrieval
•Crime scene photography and documentation
•Measuring and diagramming crime scenes
•Interview and interrogation techniques
•Officer-involved shootings
•Case file preparation and courtroom testimony

This demanding course combines classroom instruction with practical, hands-on investigative exercises led by experienced TBI Special Agents and subject matter experts.

Chief Bean stated:

KEEP RIGHT, EXCEPT TO PASS

Did you know that under Tennessee Code Annotated (T.C.A.) 55-8-204, drivers are required to drive in the right lane and use the left lane only for passing?

The left lane is not a travel lane. Once you have safely passed another vehicle, you should return to the right lane. Remaining in the left lane while impeding traffic can create congestion, increase driver frustration, and contribute to dangerous driving situations.

Remember:
✅ The left lane is for passing only.
✅ After passing, move back to the right lane.
✅ Keep traffic flowing safely and efficiently.
✅ Be courteous to other motorists.

Traffic laws are in place to improve safety for everyone on Tennessee’s roadways. By following this law, you help reduce unnecessary traffic backups and lower the risk of crashes.
