The return of Gray Mansion
After a long sabbatical, the Gray Mansion, (Address), is being reintroduced to the Grayville Community. Current owners Tim and Sue Rymer have huge plans for this grand house.
Tim and Sue, owners of Rymer Expeditors, a sign permitting business, have purchased the property and plans are being made for the following activities
1. Murder Mystery Parties
2. Princess Birthday Parties
3. Grayville Parties and Receptions
4. Yard space to rent for the Grayville Citywide Garage Sale
Just to name a few........
Let's meet the Rymer's. Tim is originally from Mt. Carmel. Joining the Army after high school, Tim served tours in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He is now employed by YRC, out of Evansville, as a truck driver. Sue is from Indianapolis and taught school for 10 years after college. Sue moved to Mt. Carmel in 1999, met Tim and the rest became history when they wed in 2003. The Rymer's have 2 girls, Hannah of Evansville and Sarah of Mt. Carmel.
The Gray Mansion was built in 1885. Designed by George F. Barber & Co. of Knoxville Tn., the house was built for $4443 or $1.59 per sq. ft. There are a total of 48 windows in the house, 4 are original with a bevel and lead glass. Frames, at the top of the walls, in the living and dining rooms, are engraved with the signatures of the designers. Communication tubes still run from the master bedroom to the butler's room, which is redesigned into a bathroom. The servant's quarters and kitchen still have the communication tubes. The floor plan is enclosed to make roaming informative.
The first, second and third floor is currently being toured, along with the boiler room. The Carriage House and motel is currently unavailable for tours. Please feel free to browse and enjoy a cotton candy and snow cone.
The Carriage House is a major concern with disrepair and plans are to convert to a garage and banquet hall. The motel is currently being designed into a Mother-in-law quarters.
Thanks to family and friend, who have made this day possible.
