The Select Board of the Town of Great Barrington has voted to call a Special Town Meeting for Monday, June 29, 2026, at 6:00 PMatMonument Mountain Regional High School.

In accordance with the Town's Charter and By­Laws, a period for the submission of citizen petition articles will open on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 8:30 AM and close on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 4:00 PM.

Residents interested in submitting a citizen petition article for consideration at the Special Town Meeting must submit completed petitions to the Town Clerk's Office by the deadline.

Additional information, including citizen petition requirements and the Special Town Meeting warrant, will be posted on the Town's website as it becomes available.

Questions may be directed to the Town Clerk's Office at Town Hall during normal business hours.

TOWN HALL DELAYED OPENING – TUESDAY JUNE 2, 2026
Please be advised that Town of Great Barrington Town Hall offices will open at 12:00 PM (Noon) on
Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to allow for an all­employee organizational training.
During this time, Town Hall offices will be closed to the public. Phone calls, emails, and walk­in services will
be responded to once offices reopen at noon.
We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as staff participate in this important training
opportunity in support of continued service improvements and organizational development.
For urgent public safety matters, residents should continue to contact emergency services by dialing 911.

The Town of Great Barrington is seeking residents interested in serving on the Board of Library Trustees.
The Board of Library Trustees supports and advocates for the Town's public library system, helping to guide long-range planning, policies, community engagement, and stewardship of library resources and services at both the Mason Library and the Ramsdell Library. Trustees work collaboratively with library leadership to ensure the libraries continue to serve as welcoming, accessible, and evolving community spaces for residents of all ages.
The Selectboard is seeking applicants who:
Have an interest in public libraries, literacy, education, or civic engagement;
Value community service and public access to information;
Are willing to participate collaboratively in board discussions and decision-making; and
Can commit time for regular meetings and related responsibilities.
Residents with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives are encouraged to apply.
Appointment to fill a vacancy, until the next annual election, is made by the Selectboard in accordance with applicable Town bylaws and policies.

and Celebrates National Public Works Week

The Town of Great Barrington is proud to announce the launch of GB Gratitude, a new community initiative designed to recognize and celebrate exceptional service across Town government and public service teams.

GB Gratitude provides residents, visitors, businesses, and community members with a simple way to share compliments and recognize positive interactions with Town staff, departments, boards and committees, volunteers, and public safety personnel. The initiative was intentionally launched in conjunction with National Public Works Week (May 17–23) as a way to highlight the important work happening behind the scenes throughout the organization every day.

NOW RECRUITING ON-CALL FIREFIGHTERS

The Town of Great Barrington is currently seeking dedicated and community­minded individuals interested
in serving as Paid On­Call Firefighters with the Great Barrington Fire Department.

The Department is looking to expand its on­call roster to help support emergency response operations and
continue delivering reliable fire and emergency services to residents across the community. On­Call Firefighters respond to a wide range of emergency situations, including fire suppression,
emergency medical calls, rescue operations, and public service responses. The position also includes
training opportunities, ongoing certifications, and participation in community engagement and fire
prevention activities.

To Apply Applicants must:
Be at least 18 years of age
Possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license
Reside within the designated response area of a Great Barrington Fire Station

The Town offers competitive hourly compensation ranging from $18.00–$24.50 per hour, along with
eligibility stipends, paid training opportunities, and the chance to serve the community in a meaningful
and impactful role.

GB COMMUNITY CROSSWALK ART INITIATIVE:

In recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the
Town of Great Barrington is launching a community crosswalk art initiative as part of its broader local July
4th 250th celebration activities.

The initiative invites community groups, organizations, schools, artists, civic organizations, and
neighborhood teams to submit creative concepts for decorative crosswalk paintings that celebrate
community, creativity, civic pride, and the spirit of Great Barrington.

While concepts must utilize only red, white, and blue paint, proposals are encouraged to reflect Great
Barrington’s identity, culture, history, neighborhoods, creativity, and community spirit.

The Town of Great Barrington is encouraging residents to review important election and budget information
in advance of the upcoming Annual Town Election on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Polls will be open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the following locations:
- Precincts A, C, and D: Great Barrington Fire Station, 37 State Road, Great Barrington
- Precinct B: Housatonic Community Center, 1064 Main Street, Housatonic

In addition to local elected offices, voters will consider a ballot question related to a proposed Proposition
2½ operational override.

To help residents better understand the question and its potential impacts, the Town has published election
resources, budget information, and a detailed Proposition 2½ Override FAQ page on the Town website.
