Things are revving up for the Great Barrington Fire Department Annual Main Street Car Show. Reminder that Main Street and Railroad Streets are closed from 4-8ish. Traffic should use East Street detour.

COOLING STATIONS AVAILABILITY AUGUST 6-7, 2026

With the expected prolonged period of hot weather and high humidity, the Town of Great Barrington has the following air-conditioned Cooling Stations available for anyone looking to get out of the heat:

Mason Library
231 Main Street, Great Barrington
10AM to 6PM

GB Fire Station Headquarters
37 State Road, Great Barrington
8AM to 5PM

Claire Teague Senior Center
917 South Main Street, Great Barrington
8AM to 3:30PM

Town Hall
334 Main Street, Great Barrington
8:30AM to 4PM

If you are in need of a reprieve from the heat, swing by either of these facilities for some cool A/C. We kindly ask that members of the community that will be visiting the cooling stations make other arrangements for their pets. Service animals will be permitted.

The Town of Great Barrington has been notified by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation
(MassDOT) that bridge rehabilitation work on the Hurlburt Road Bridge is scheduled to begin Monday,
August 10, 2026.
To safely complete the project, Hurlburt Road will be closed to through traffic, and a signed detour route
will be in place before construction begins. Message boards will also be installed in advance to notify
motorists of the upcoming closure. The detour will follow the route shown on the attached MassDOT
traffic control plan.
The project is expected to take approximately 8 to 10 weeks, weather permitting.

FLOOD WATCH / LOCALIZED FLOODING ADVISORY

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Berkshire County, including the Town of Great Barrington, through 5:45 PM today (Wednesday).

Heavy rainfall has already resulted in 1 to 2 inches of rain, with an additional 1 to 2 inches possible this afternoon. Flooding is occurring or is expected in low-lying areas, along small streams and creeks, and in locations with poor drainage.

Residents are urged to:
• Avoid driving through flooded roadways. Even shallow moving water can be dangerous, and road conditions beneath the water may be compromised.
• Use caution when traveling, as ponding of water and reduced visibility are expected.
• Stay away from swollen streams, drainage channels, and other rapidly moving water.
• Monitor local weather conditions and be prepared for changing conditions throughout the afternoon.

Town departments are monitoring conditions and will respond to any reported roadway or public infrastructure concerns as needed.

The Town will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as additional information becomes available.

The Town of Great Barrington is alerting residents, property owners, businesses, contractors, and applicants to a growing nationwide phishing scam targeting individuals involved in municipal permitting, planning, zoning, and licensing processes.

Across the country, scammers have been using information obtained from publicly available application materials to impersonate municipal employees and send fraudulent invoices requesting payment by wire transfer or other electronic means. Unfortunately, Great Barrington has recently experienced a similar incident involving a planning applicant.

PLEASE REMEMBER:
• The Town of Great Barrington will never request payment by wire transfer through an unsolicited email.
• If you receive an unexpected invoice or payment request claiming to be from the Town, do not send payment.
• Instead, contact the appropriate Town department using the official phone number or email listed on the Town's website to verify the request.
