🚒 Fire Safety Friday — Week 7 🚒
🔥 This Week’s Topic: Grill & Outdoor Cooking Safety
Summer means grilling, family gatherings, and time outside—but grills can create serious fire hazards when they’re used too close to homes, decks, or other combustible materials.
🔥 Keep these grilling safety tips in mind:
📍 Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and anything else that can burn.
👀 Never leave a grill unattended. A fire can develop quickly.
🧹 Keep the grill clean. Grease and fat buildup can ignite and cause a dangerous flare-up.
🧯 Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and make sure everyone knows where it is.
👕 Keep clothing, towels, paper products, and other combustibles away from the grill.
🚫 Never use a grill inside a garage, porch, tent, or other enclosed area. Grills produce carbon monoxide in addition to creating a fire hazard.
🔥 If a grease fire occurs:
❌ Never use water on a grease fire.
➡️ Turn off the burners if you can safely do so.
➡️ Close the lid to help cut off the oxygen.
➡️ If the fire continues or spreads, get everyone away from the area and call 911 (tel:911).
⚠️ For propane grills: If you smell gas or suspect a leak, turn off the propane supply if it is safe to do so, move away from the area, and call 911 (tel:911) if necessary.
🏡 Before your next cookout, take a quick look at your grill’s location, condition, and surroundings. A few minutes of preparation can help keep your family, home, and guests safe.
