Over the past two days, our deputies participated in intensive stress-shooting exercises designed to simulate the demanding conditions they may face in real-world encounters.

With temperatures reaching 95 degrees, deputies trained in full uniform while completing demanding physical and fi****ms exercises. This included a one-minute continuous weapon-retention fighting drill followed immediately by runs of up to 130 yards before transitioning into shooting scenarios. Sirens, training flash-bangs, shotgun fire, and semi-automatic and automatic rifle fire were also used to add noise, stress, and distraction.

The goal goes beyond marksmanship. Deputies must stay focused, handle their weapons safely, control their breathing, and make sound decisions while physically exhausted and surrounded by distractions.

We are extremely proud of our deputies and their commitment to training. Their ability to push through difficult conditions, remain focused, and continue performing at a high level speaks volumes about their dedication to the profession and the community they serve.

The Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide realistic, scenario-based training that places deputies in environments as close to real-life conditions as possible. Our goal is to prepare deputies for the wide range of situations, conditions, and challenges they may encounter in the field so they are ready to respond safely, confidently, and effectively when it matters most.

I was picking up some ice on Main Street at Windshields for Less earlier this evening at about 10:00 PM. I noticed a set of keys laying on the ground and picked them up. If you think you lost them they will be at the Sheriff's Office Monday morning. If you really really really really really need them sooner than that, call communications at 620-793-1920 they will get in contact with me. I'll figure something out.

---SCAM ALERT---

The Barton County Sheriff's Office is asking the public and local businesses to remain vigilant regarding an individual involved in a check-fraud scheme targeting financial institutions in our area and surrounding counties.

The suspect has been described as:
• African American female
• Approximately 5'9" tall
• Slender build
• Wears glasses
• Has a tattoo on her neck
• Often dressed in nursing scrubs
• Claims to be a traveling nurse

She has reportedly used the names Tracy Brown and Bridget Mosley (spellings unconfirmed) and has presented counterfeit identification and other documents that appear to be legitimate in an attempt to open bank accounts.

A fraudulent check was successfully negotiated at a financial institution in Great Bend, and a similar attempt was later made in Hoisington.

We encourage all financial institutions, businesses, and residents to use caution when verifying identification and financial documents. If you believe you have encountered this individual, do not confront her. Instead, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.

If you have any information that may assist this investigation, please contact the Barton County Sheriff's Office at (620) 793-1876, your local police department, or Barton County Communications at 911 if the incident is occurring at that time.

You may also report information anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Great Bend and Barton County at 620-792-1300 or by visiting www.p3tips.com.

Your awareness and cooperation help protect our community from fraud.
