🐾 International Working Animal Day – Honoring Our Search & Rescue K9 Partners 🐾
Today, on International Working Animal Day, we recognize the incredible animals whose work changes lives around the world. Established in 2016 by SPANA (the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad), this day was created to raise awareness of the vital contributions made by working animals and the challenges they face every day. Working animals often perform jobs no machine can replace.
Closer to home, we honor the working dogs who serve in Search and Rescue.
Our K9 partners willingly search through dense brush, rugged mountains, deep snow, heat, and dangerous terrain to help bring missing loved ones home. They work long hours, travel countless miles, train year-round, and remain ready to respond at a moment’s notice.
Behind every successful search is a team of dedicated volunteers who sacrifice weekends, holidays, family time, and personal finances to maintain the training, equipment, veterinary care, and certifications required to keep these teams mission-ready.
Today we celebrate not only the achievements of working animals, but also their welfare, care, and the bond they share with the people who depend on them.
🐕🦺 Because every search matters.
❤️ Because every life matters.
🐾 Because our K9 partners are more than working animals—they are heroes.
Fact: International Working Animal Day is observed annually on June 15 and was founded in 2016 to highlight the essential role of working animals and the importance of their welfare. Millions of working animals worldwide support human livelihoods through transportation, agriculture, public safety, and other critical services.
