MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND BLOTTER โ Your police force had a busy holiday weekend. Here are some quick stats and a few interesting calls for service. 5/22/26 5PM to 5/25/26 11:59PM, 13 - 911 dispatchers handled 483 calls for service county-wide and 49 police officers handled 324 calls for service inside the city limits, including:

A person was arrested and charged with Assault on a Minor (F), Criminal Endangerment (F), Criminal Mischief (M), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (M), Partner or Family Member Assault 2nd Offense (M), Weapons - Use of Prohibited (M), after they entered the residence of a former partner, assaulted the partner, caused injury to a minor child, then unlawfully discharged a gun in the parking lot. Officers and deputies from the Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner's Office (CCSO) located the male at the back of a nearby business and took him into custody without injury.
A person was trespassed from a business and charged with two counts of Disorderly Conduct (M) after they waived around boards in a threatening manner then walked into traffic, forcing vehicles to come to a stop. Officers located the suspect inside a business attempting to clean the floor of the menโs restroom with paper towels. The suspect was arrested and remanded to the CCSO Adult Detention Center.
A concerned community member called for officers to respond to a park after they witnessed a parent hit their son with a belt. Officers advised, according to Montana Code Annotated, a parent may use this type of discipline on their child. ***Regarding this type of incident, the circumstances of each case are taken into consideration. We've included the relevant MCA in the comments.***
An officer responded to a suicidal person after they called for help. The officer calmed the person down until an ambulance crew arrived. The person thanked the officer repeatedly, as they were prepared for transport to the hospital. *We commend this community member for having the courage to ask for help. We are always here when you need us.*
An officer took the opportunity to make a positive impression when she stopped by a lemonade stand. The kids were excited to tell the officer they had earned $8 and bought themselves jump ropes and pop. The officer handed out stickers and told them to keep up the good work.
Officers intervened in a neighborhood dispute after a resident called to report the neighborโs sprinkler was getting their yard and fence wet. Officers learned this is an ongoing dispute and helped the neighbors come to a peaceful resolution for the night.
Officer investigated a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. Officer learned the pedestrian was upset because the same vehicle speeds past their residence daily. The pedestrian entered the roadway to get the vehicle to stop and when the vehicle passed by, the pedestrian reached out and struck the vehicle. The officer advised the pedestrian they could be cited for Disorderly Conduct (M) by Impeding Vehicular Traffic, and standing upon a roadway while sidewalks were provided. At which time, the pedestrian told the officer to get off their property, so he did.
Community member reported someone lighting off fireworks. Officers responded and could not find anyone in the area described. They spoke to a small group nearby who said they did not see anyone lighting off fireworks. Officers also noted they could not smell fireworks and found no debris related to fireworks.
A bank customer called for help after their key got stuck in the night deposit box that was halfway closed. Dispatchers called the contact listed for the bank who responded right away and took over. For security purposes we are not sharing the solution to the stuck key but, the incident was resolved and the customer got to go home.
Officer observed five individuals sitting on the step of a downtown business and directly below a "No Trespassing" sign, with two more โNo Trespassing" signs directly in front of them. Upon contact the officer observed an open empty pint bottle of Nikolai vodka and a brown paper bag with an open can of Steel Reserve. One member of the group was so intoxicated they were previously unconscious. Officer issued all of the individuals a citation for Trespass (M) and the intoxicated person also received a citation for Open Container (M), before they were instructed to move along.
An officer contacted a person who is known to be a close associate of another person who was wanted on a high dollar warrant. As the officer approached the person they exited and entered their parked vehicle multiple times, franticly moving items from the front to the back seat. When the officer asked if they knew where the wanted person was, they said the person was at a cousinโs house. The officer advised that it is a crime to harbor or conceal a wanted person. The person said they understood. Just as the officer was walking away, a sergeant saw the wanted person in the back seat of the vehicle, covered with items. Both were arrested and taken to the CCSO Adult Detention Center; the driver was charged with Obstructing Justice (F).
At approximately 12:30AM, officers patrolling downtown became curious about a group of people in fancy medieval type clothing. The group said they had been playing role-play board games and were headed home. The cops got a kick out of their costumes and fancy gear.
An officer patrolling downtown noticed two people on private property and sitting directly next to a very large "No Trespassing" sign, along with several other "No Trespassing" signs posted in the parking lot and on the commercial building. Both were cited for Trespass (M) and instructed to move along.
Officers searching for a wanted person made contact with a resident known to be an associate of the wanted person and living at a residence where the wanted person had been seen. The resident allowed officers to search the house, where they did not locate the wanted person. The officers noted the person may have left the house through a hole under the residence that was full of garbage, urine, and f***s.
