Picket at Hometown Harvest Foods

Members of The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1889 have been picketing at Hometown Harvest Foods located at 2505 6th Ave N in Great Falls.

Terrie Trettenbach, President of The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1889, claims that the previous owner has a contract with the union effective until August 1st. “She laid off 13 out of 29 employees, including a Marine Corps veteran with a TBI,” stated Michael Duryee, with United Food and Commercial Workers Union, referring to the new owner of Hometown Harvest Foods.

“The new owner came in and let several go,” stated Terrie. “People came in to work and were told they no longer had a job, that they were going a different direction. We are simply asking people to shop elsewhere until she comes back to the negotiating table."

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1889 is based out of Butte and plans to return on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of July.

This is still an evolving story at this time, and we will update when more information is available.

Hey there folks, Sam Lux here. Behind me is Hometown Harvest Market in Great Falls, previously IGA. It's been a staple point in the area for a long time, supporting our town and working with our unions to provide meaningful jobs..

But since new ownership came in, workers are saying they've pushed out longtime employees, including older workers who had served this community for years. Others say they were pressured to give up their union contract or were targeted because they stood with their union.

That is not how you build a hometown business. That is how you break faith with the people who make a business possible in the first place. Those workers deserve respect. They deserve fair wages. And they deserve to know that this community has their back.

The workers and union allies are on the picket line at Hometown Harvest Foods from 10 AM to 6 PM. At 3 PM, Brian Miller , candidate for U.S. House, and I will be there as part of the Miller for Congress campaign to stand in solidarity.

We often show up to protest injustice happening thousands of miles away, this is our chance to make a real difference right here at home. The Miller for Congress campaign calls on everyone who can to come stand with these workers, even if only for a few minutes. For those who cannot, Matt Pipinich and I will be organizing a follow up protest on Saturday the 27th.

Honor the contract. Respect the workers. Stand with labor.

The results are in, and while our campaign won't be moving on to the General Election, I couldn't be more grateful for the support, trust, and encouragement so many Montanans gave me throughout this race.
This campaign was never just about winning an election. It was about standing up for working people, advocating for those who too often go unheard, and proving that ordinary folks still have a place in our democracy. Along the way, I had the privilege of meeting incredible people in communities across Montana, and that experience alone made this journey worthwhile.
Today, I'm proud to reaffirm my endorsement of Brian Miller and will be dedicating my time and energy to helping his campaign succeed. We said from the beginning that we were going to work together to get one of us to Washington, and that's exactly what we're going to do.
As for me, this isn't goodbye. I'll keep advocating for Montanans, building coalitions, and fighting for the issues that matter. And if all goes according to plan, you'll probably see me again in 2028.
Until then, there are still horses that need shoes.
Thank you, Montana. ❤️
