It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Joan Fratezi, a devoted member of the Mountain Lake Fire Company. Joan gave so much of herself to serving others and our community, and her dedication and kindness will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and all who had the honor of serving alongside her. Rest in peace, Joan. Your service will always be remembered.

We would like to wish our dedicated members, staff, and all the EMS agencies across the country a happy EMS week!

The Independence First Aid Squad officers would also like to take this time to highlight two of our observers who obtained their EMT!!!!

Abby joined IFAS in the Summer of 2024 and recently passed her NREMT exam! She says she wanted the opportunity and experience to help her with her future aspiration of becoming a nurse practitioner. In her free time, she enjoys going on hikes and finding cute coffee shops.

Jayden joined IFAS in the summer of 2024 and passed his NREMT in the winter of 2024! Jayden says he wants a unique experience every time he comes to work. In his free time, he enjoys flying, as he aspires to commission and fly in the Air Force as a pilot.

We are proud of the dedication of these two volunteers. Please join us in congratulating them on their recent successes!

Helpful Wildfire Terminology
🔥 Wildfire - An uncontrolled fire burning the different types of vegetation that cover the land. A wildfire is considered a “major wildfire” after it exceeds 100 acres in size.
🔥 Containment - When reporting on a wildfire a percentage of containment will be given, which will state how much of the fireline has been completed.
🔥 Backfire - A fire intentionally set along the interior edge of a fireline by Forest Fire Service staff to consume fuel in the path of a wildfire and/or to change the direction of force of a fire’s convection column.
🔥 Fireline - The part of a containment or control line that is scraped or dug to mineral soil.
🔥 Threatened - Critical infrastructure, roads, homes and commercial buildings that are in the vicinity of a wildfire.

The Independence Twp Police Department is currently accepting resumes for the position of entry level Full-Time Police Officers.

The Independence Twp Police Department is located in Warren County NJ and currently employs 11 full-time police officers.

Applicants must minimally possess the following qualifications:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Be a citizen of the United States.
3. Be a resident of New Jersey.
4. Possess a high school diploma or an approved high school equivalency certificate.
5. Have a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
6. Have the ability to pass a background investigation, psychological examination and medical examination with a drug screening.
7. Have the ability to pass a standardized PTC physical fitness test and to attend and successfully pass the Police Academy (details of academy start date will be given to viable candidates upon completion of initial review)
