Today we said good-bye to the old Brass Rail horseshoe pavilion. She was old and weak, but in her day, she brought a lot of fun to so many people in this county.
Eventually, we hope to construct a smaller cover to provide shade for our guests when they are using the picnic tables but, in the meantime, we just have the memory.

We are excited to introduce Ethel Wilson, a dietitian and diabetes educator with MedStar Health. Ms. Wilson provides one-on-one information to our guests, helping them to understand the importance of healthy eating.
We believe that strong partnerships create strong people who in turn grow strong communities. We embrace these organizations who are dedicated to serving our guests, especially MedStar and the Department of Social Services who are housed in our building, making it easy for people to access assistance.

🌡️ Public Cooling Centers Open July 15–18

With dangerous heat expected this week, public cooling centers will be open Wednesday, July 15 through Saturday, July 18 for anyone who needs a cool place to escape the heat. Libraries, senior activity centers, the Three Oaks Center, and the St. Mary's Caring Soup Kitchen will be available during normal business hours.

Heat index values are forecast to reach 106°F. Remember to:
💧 Stay hydrated
❄️ Spend time in air-conditioned spaces when possible
☀️ Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day
❤️ Check on neighbors, older adults, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat
🐾 Bring pets indoors whenever possible and ensuring they always have access to fresh water and shade

Our first Summer Shine Dinner of the season, thanks to our wonderful volunteers who created a meal of Teriyaki Chicken, Pineapple Rice, fresh broccoli, and a hearty Baby Kale salad with apples and raisins.
Dinners are served very Monday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
