Memorial Field is officially open!
On Saturday, September 19, the Great Neck Park District celebrated the official reopening of Memorial Field with a community ribbon-cutting and opening celebration.
The celebration included the kickoff of our youth soccer program, soccer training, inflatable rides, contest giveaways, and, of course, the official ribbon-cutting!
Commissioner Tina Stellato, Superintendent Jason Marra, and Assistant Superintendent Anthony DiDomenico were joined by Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and Councilwoman Christine Liu, who presented the Great Neck Park District with a Certificate of Recognition celebrating the opening of the improved field.
In a special moment, Commissioner Stellato cut the ribbon as our young soccer players ran through and onto the field—officially welcoming the community back to Memorial Field! ⚽
The completed improvements include:
• New Kentucky Bluegrass sod
• Soil enhancements based on detailed soil testing
• Laser grading for a more consistent playing surface
• New baseball field backstops
• Upgraded dugouts
• The field’s first irrigation system to support long-term turf health
This project represents an important investment in the quality, safety, and long-term sustainability of Memorial Field and the recreational opportunities it provides to Great Neck residents.
We’re excited to see Memorial Field filled once again with our community’s athletes, families, and programs!
A new field. A new season. Connecting, Creating, Celebrating! 💚⚽
