Thank you Great Neck for making your voices heard on Tuesday.
A broad cross-section of our community came out to vote from every neighborhood, every background, and every generation in record numbers: 2,433 in-person votes were cast out of 3,339 total votes.

Our goal was to win the in-person vote, which we did:

Maze: 1,232 in-person votes (50.6%)
Cilluffo: 1,201 in-person votes (49.4%)

However, as with previous elections, absentee ballots ultimately determined the outcome:

Maze: 237 absentee votes (26%)
Cilluffo: 672 absentee votes (74%).

After the results came in, I shook Commissioner Cilluffo’s hand, congratulated him on his win and committed to working with him in support of our residents. I also spent time speaking with the other Commissioners and our Park District Superintendent. Those conversations were respectful, constructive, and focused on the future.

This journey didn’t end for me on Tuesday. I remain committed to working alongside all of you to strengthen and support the Great Neck we all care so deeply about. To that end, I plan to help establish a Community Focus Group for the Park District - a Park District resident-driven forum that keeps communication with the Park District open, consistent, and meaningful year-round (similar to how the UPTC operates with the School District).

As for the parkland alienation request, I intend to build on the relationships I established with members of the UMJCA, Concerned Citizens of NY-03 and Save Kings Point Park to do what I can to help everyone move forward in a productive way.

On a personal note, I want to thank my wife and daughters, who stood by me and actively supported me throughout this campaign. I am grateful beyond words for their love, patience, and strength - especially in the face of stress, negativity, and the social media storm that surfaced in the days leading up to the election.

To every volunteer, supporter, friend, neighbor, coach, parent, and community member who gave your time, energy, and heart — thank you. I will never be able to fully express how much your belief, encouragement, and support meant to me.

This morning started for me at 6:45am, standing on the bridge over the train tracks with a close friend — the kind of friend who will risk hypothermia for something he believes in. We were out there freezing, handing out flyers, doing everything we could to get out the vote.

A few familiar faces passed by, but one moment hit me harder than I expected. I ran into one of my former players from the Green Lightning (my older daughter’s GNSC team who were together for 10+ years). I’ve known her and her family since she was 8 and she’s 22 now working in financial services in NYC. Time flies. She saw me, broke into a smile, gave me the biggest hug, and told me she’d be voting for me tonight.

That kind of moment… it gets you. It makes you teary. It makes you proud. And it reminds you why you show up for this community, day after day, year after year.

I’m not perfect, far from it, but I’ve always tried to lead with a strong moral compass. My North Star has always been simple: try and do right by people in this community.

No matter what happens tonight, I’m grateful. Truly.

Tonight, I simply want to say thank you.

In these past weeks, I’ve met so many of you on doorsteps, at our fields, in community rooms, and across every neighborhood in Great Neck. You shared your concerns and ideas and I am grateful for every single conversation.

This election has never been about me. It has always been about you and the future of our Park District.

If you want a Park District that listens and puts the community first, I respectfully ask for your support and for you to remind friends and neighbors to vote as well.

Tuesday, December 9 is your chance to be heard.

Polls Open: 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

WEEKEND CAMPAIGN RECAP - Listening, Learning & Connecting Across Great Neck

This weekend was packed. I began with a tour of the Wildwood property alongside the President of the UMJCA Central Board and members of their leadership team. I want to say this clearly: I have deep respect for the Mashadi community and for every community that makes Great Neck what it is…a diverse and culturally rich place to live and raise our kids.

My goal, as always, was to listen and learn. It was a positive experience, and I left with a much deeper understanding of the site and its potential use for Park District residents. I also shared the concerns raised to me by Concerned Citizens of NY-03, Save KPP, and others who simply feel left out of the discussion by the Park District and want their voices heard as well.

I spoke about the value of real face to face conversations and my disdain for one way social-media shouting matches, which I do not endorse or participate in. I left committed to keeping our dialogue going, no matter the outcome of this election.

From there, the weekend was all about meeting the community. I spent most of Saturday and Sunday walking through Thomaston, speaking with hundreds of neighbors and getting to hear their concerns and sharing ideas for an improved Park District. Along the way, I ran into families I’ve known for years from GNSC and Temple Beth El who I didn’t even realize lived right in my backyard. Getting to really meet my neighbors is what I have come to appreciate the most during my campaign. A big thank you to the friends who bundled up and canvassed with me in the cold. I appreciate you more than you know.

In between, I stopped by Parkwood to catch a Bruins hockey game and walked away with a whole new appreciation for the hockey families who get their kids on the ice before sunrise.

I also visited Lights and Ice where I got to meet members of the Cub Scouts and see old friends from GNSC.

And to top it off, I ended the night at Rothchilds getting a rare and much-appreciated dinner with my daughter.

It was a full, fulfilling weekend. One that reminded me why I’m running and just how special this community is.

Looking forward to Tuesday.

I am incredibly honored to share a message of support from Shep Messing, a Great Neck resident, U.S. Olympic goalkeeper, New York Cosmos legend, longtime broadcaster, and a proud supporter of the Great Neck Soccer Club and youth sports across our community.

Thank you Shep for your support and for everything you continue to do for Great Neck.

Shabbat Shalom Great Neck.

As we head into Shabbat, I’ve been thinking a lot about family, heritage, and the roots that connect us to this community. In my own family, our name Maze (or Mazeh, as it was once pronounced) comes from the Hebrew phrase “Mi Zera Aharon Hacohen” — from Aaron the Kohen. It’s a reminder of generations who carried responsibility, service, and care for their community as a core part of who they were.

That sense of responsibility is something I carry with me today as we work together to strengthen and unite Great Neck—north, south, and everywhere in between.

Wishing you and your families peace, rest, and connection as Shabbat begins. Shabbat Shalom.

What a terrific event last night at the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Company 4. Thank you to the Lakeville Civic Association for allowing me to share my vision for the Park District, for Councilwoman Christine Liu who continues to show up for our community, and for our Nassau County Police 6th Precinct for their commitment to a safer Great Neck.

I also want to give a huge congratulations to the Great Neck South High School Volleyball and Badminton teams on their season. These kids represent the best of our community.

Last year, I helped advocate for the School District’s investment in new athletic fields, lighting, and infrastructure. It took 18 months, countless meetings, community presentations, and ultimately a district-wide vote. Seventy percent of voters approved it.

The South community played a critical role in helping that pass for Great Neck North High School. And as I promised when I encouraged everyone to support Proposition 2, I (along with many members of the North community) will be working just as hard this spring to secure the same level of investment for South HS.

This is how we bring Great Neck together—by lifting each other up, not dividing our neighborhoods.

That’s the leadership I will bring to the Park District.

As a first-time candidate, I’ve spent the past few months digging into how our Park District election works. After speaking with residents, poll workers, and reviewing the rules myself, I want to share what I’ve learned so every voter can protect their vote.

First, a comparison that surprised me:

Typical School District Election
• 3,000+ total votes
• Only 80–100 absentee ballots
• Absentees ≈ 3%

Typical Park District Election
• ~2,000 total votes
• Nearly 900 absentee ballots
• Absentees ≈ 45%

Absentee voting in the Park District is fifteen times higher than in our School District elections. This imbalance is one reason a former candidate filed a lawsuit challenging the results.

One of the most important things every voter needs to know:

✔️ You must personally sign your own Absentee Ballot Request Form. No one else — not a neighbor, volunteer, or community representative — is allowed to sign it for you.

✔️ You must personally sign the outer envelope of your completed absentee ballot. Poll workers compare the two signatures. If they don’t match, your ballot may be challenged or rejected.

Many residents told me they believed that:

• Signing the request form meant they had already “voted”
• Someone else could “handle the rest”
• A collector could sign on their behalf

All of this is incorrect — and can unintentionally put your vote at risk.

To cast a valid absentee vote, you must do all five steps:

1. Sign the Absentee Ballot Request Form and drop at the Park District office (5 Beach Road) no later than 5pm on December 8th

2. Receive your ballot by mail, in person (best option) or by selecting a trusted person to pick it up for you at 5 Beach Road. In person is typically very efficient as they can get you a ballot to fill out while you are there (around 15 to 20 minutes depending on volume).

3. Fill out the ballot and seal it inside the inner envelope

4. Sign the outer envelope yourself

5. Drop off your ballot at 5 Beach Road before 5pm on December 9th

If you are unsure whether your ballot is being handled correctly, you still have one guaranteed option:

➡️ Vote in person on December 9.

Your in-person vote overrides any absentee ballot — even one already submitted.

I’m sharing this because our community deserves clarity, transparency, and confidence in the election process. If you have questions, please reach out — every vote deserves to be counted exactly as the voter intends.

This Giving Tuesday, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for our Great Neck community and our extended soccer family. 🇯🇲🤝🇺🇸

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, so many people in Jamaica were left struggling. Thanks to the generosity of GNSC families—and our partners at JIGS Soccer Academy and Eye Q Sports, who ensured everything reached the people who needed it most—we raised over $1,000 and collected 20+ bags of clothing, blankets, and essential supplies.

All of it was delivered directly into the hands of families rebuilding their lives.

And we’re not done. Later this year, we’ll be donating uniforms and equipment to support young athletes and local programs as they recover.

A special thanks to Paige Erika for coordinating all of the efforts on behalf of GNSC. You truly go above and beyond for this community.

Last night was a special one.
I had the honor of attending the Nassau County Girls Soccer Awards to celebrate my daughter, her North High School teammates, and her former GNSC teammates from South High. Many of these girls have played together since they were 8 and 9 years old — and I’ve had the privilege of watching them grow into incredible athletes and even better young women.

As a dad and as someone who has spent years helping build youth soccer in Great Neck, moments like this mean everything. My daughter wrapped up her high school soccer career as a Top 100 player on Long Island, a three-time All-County selection, and an All-County Honorable Mention — achievements she earned through hard work, heart, and love for the game. While she’s chosen not to play college soccer, I’m grateful I still get to watch her finish her high school athletic journey on the lacrosse field this spring.

I will truly miss those long days on the soccer fields — the early mornings, the late nights, the laughter, the camaraderie, the lifelong friendships formed through Great Neck Soccer Club. These girls and their teammates represent the best of our community, and watching them grow up together has been one of my greatest joys.

Congratulations to all the players and families tonight — Great Neck North High School, Great Neck South High School, and GNSC. You make Great Neck proud.

WEEKEND RECAP: TEAM MAZE4GNPD IN ACTION

Cold. Windy. Rainy. Non-stop.
But our team showed up BIG this weekend.

From getting our banners up in tough weather, to delivering yard signs across every neighborhood, to walking door-to-door making sure residents understand what’s at stake on December 9 — this campaign is powered by people who care deeply about our parks, our community, and our future.

A special shoutout to our local merchants who proudly put our signs in their windows - and to my incredible wife and daughters for helping make it happen. And thank you to everyone who opened their doors for weekend conversations, shared concerns, and volunteered time.

These were long days and late nights fueled by caffeine and a shared commitment to fairness, transparency, and protecting our parks. To my volunteers: you know exactly who you are. Your dedication means everything — and I truly appreciate each of you.

We’re heading into a big week, including our Meet & Greet with the Candidates Event hosted by the Lakeville Civic Association on Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:00 PM at the Manhasset–Lakeville Firehouse on Jayson Avenue.
Hope to see you there.

Let’s keep the momentum going. December 9 is coming fast — and every conversation, every sign, and every vote matters.
