Howard Johnson's, late 1950s. The Greece Howard Johnson's was located at 1450 West Ridge Road. It was located across from old Holiday Inn Hotel and what is now the modified northwest corner of Stone/Corona/West Ridge Road; adjacent to the former Autozone/Robert Hall stores building. It closed June 1985. Below is a 1957 solicitation posting in the D&C seeking management candidates and an aerial view of the famous motor inn restaurant.

West Ridge and North Greece, Road, 1970's? Red Fedele's Brookhouse, the white, 19th century building in the middle of the photo, was originally located at 3968 West Ridge Road. It relocated some twenty years later to its current location of 920 Elmridge Center. Gears Park, is visible just above it and is named after switch pitching softball pitcher Harold P. "Shifty" Gears. He pitched 61 no-hitters and 9 perfect games and finished his career with 866 wins and over 13,000 strikeouts. From 1925 to 1947 he was the primary pitcher in 58 championships of various types. Park Ridge Hospital, 1975 aerial photo. Fifty-one years ago, Park Ridge Hospital opened in September 1975 on the Park Ridge Health Care Campus to meet the growing health care needs of Greece, New York and the surrounding suburban communities. Over the years, the 154-acre campus expanded to include a wide range of health care programs and services. In 1997, Park Ridge Hospital merged with the former St. Mary’s Hospital in the City of Rochester to form Unity Health System. The hospital continued to operate as Park Ridge Hospital until 2006, when it was renamed Unity Hospital. In 2014, Unity Health System merged with Rochester General Health System to create Rochester Regional Health. Today, the hospital continues to operate as Unity Hospital as part of the Rochester Regional Health network. The Greece Athena High School computer science lab, 1984. Initially used to teach basic programming and keyboarding, computers gradually became important tools for research, writing, mathematics, and career preparation. These early labs helped students develop the technological skills needed for an increasingly computer-dependent world. The teacher is likely sporting the Casio C-801 calculator watch, introduced in 1980.

Greece Talk of the Town newsletter article on the Interstate 390 North extension also known as the Assemblyman Roger J. Roback Memorial Lakeway. Assemblyman Robach was a nine-term Democratic Assemblyman and Army veteran whose district included northwest Rochester and the Town of Greece. He was the senior member of the Monroe County delegation to the Assembly and was appointed deputy majority leader in 1987 by Speaker Mel Miller. Buckman's Dairy and Bakery on West Ridge Road, 1956. A loaf of bread cost $.18 and a gallon of milk sold for around $.97 at this time. The dairy was started in 1911 by Homer Buckman and closed in 2005. You can see this and hundreds more historical images at www.greeceimages.org

Woolworth's and W.T. Grant Co. stores in Ridgemont Plaza, 1966. Ridgemont Plaza opened July 1959 was constructed at a cost of $2 million. In 1960, the plaza was anchored by Wegmans Super Market, Woolworth's, Key Drugs and others. It was among the first generation of large suburban shopping plazas that shifted retail activity away from downtown Rochester to the outlying towns.

Town of Greece sesquicentennial parade float, 1972. The float was used in both the Monroe County (1971) and Town of Greece sesquicentennial events. The float included a replica of the Charlotte lighthouse, which is a symbol on the Town of Greece flag, The celebration took place over Memorial Day weekend, 1972, and included a Greece Police Department pistol match, family picnic at Greece Town Park, a "Teen-Age Rock Dance, and the parade.

Chase Pitkin fire at Ridgemont Plaza, 13 August 1980. In the early morning hours, a major fire heavily damaged the Chase-Pitkin Home Center at Ridgemont Plaza, 2899 West Ridge Road. The blaze burned throughout the interior of the store and was brought under control by firefighters from several Monroe County departments Although no injuries were reported, firefighters were unable to determine the cause of the fire. Chase-Pitkin was a Rochester-based home improvement and hardware retailer founded in 1902 by Charles A. Chase and George W. Pitkin. The company grew into one of western New York's best-known home centers, operating stores throughout the region before being acquired by Wegmans. The chain was eventually phased out in 2006 as Wegmans shifted its focus entirely to the grocery business. (Photo credit: Matthew Pillsbury RRFD)
