We are thrilled to be hosting the History Colorado exhibit Ute Knowledge: Colorado’s Original Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math this summer!

Discover how the Ute people — Colorado’s longest continuous residents — have used deep knowledge of the land and environment to survive and thrive in the Rocky Mountains for generations.

The exhibit features maps of Ute homelands, historic and contemporary photos, quotes from Ute elders and youth, short films connecting Ute knowledge with STEM, and hands-on activities for all ages. Visitors can try building a stick shelter, creating beadwork patterns, testing woven materials, and matching plants with their traditional uses.

Explore the powerful connections between culture, science, and the Colorado landscape through this engaging and interactive experience!

Have you ever visited Patience and Fortitude?

Patience and Fortitude were unveiled in May, 1911, just a few days before the Library was dedicated.

Discover how the lions came to be, got their names, and have served as the guardians and symbols of the Library and the city for over a century.
