-------------------------------------------------------
Name: John Dalton
Job title: Signs & Markings Technician
Years of Service: 4 years with the City of Greeley

What does your job do for residents?
I'm part of a team of four that installs, fabricates, and maintains roadway markings and signs throughout the city — the kind of work that keeps everyone moving safely, even when they don't notice it. My job safely guides residents as they drive, walk, and ride the streets of Greeley.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the people I work with and knowing that even when we're a minor inconvenience out on the road, we're making it safer for everyone to get around. That trade-off always feels worth it.

What makes you proud to serve the community?
I enjoy being able to provide a service that residents truly depend on — Greeley is a great community with great people. When we're out installing updated crosswalk markings or fixing a sign, residents will stop to talk to us or give a thumbs up as they drive by. You can tell they appreciate the work. That feeling I get from them makes it all worth it.

Drinking Water Week is a reminder that a reliable water supply doesn’t happen by chance — it takes long-term planning. With Greeley’s population projected to grow substantially, the Terry Ranch Project will help secure a drought-proof, cost-effective water supply for our community’s future.

Name: Heather Mullen
Job title: Civil Engineer II
Years of Service: 6 months

What does your job do for residents? As an engineer for Transmission and Distribution, my job works to ensure that our pipeline networks are redundant and resilient so residents can get water every day. Additionally, my job helps to ensure that the pipelines have enough capacity to provide water to residents in growing areas and in the event of an emergency.

What do you enjoy most about your job? My favorite thing about my job is the real-life problem solving. The system has been in place for over 100 years, so things are not always straight forward. Spending the time to figure out the system and the improvements that need to be made is a fun challenge. The solutions that I’m able to come up with are implemented in the City and directly impact residents, which is really rewarding.

What makes you proud to serve the community? I am a Greeley native and had an internship with the W&S department in high school that launched my career in this industry. It’s been really amazing to have this “full circle” moment with this department, but also to be giving back to the community that raised me.

Name: Brian Ortega
Job title: Operator II
Years of Service: 9 years with the City of Greeley

What does your job do for residents?
I perform CCTV inspections on our stormwater pipes to make sure they're in good working order. That means getting eyes inside the infrastructure that most people never think about — identifying problems before they become costly repairs or community disruptions. Healthy stormwater systems protect neighborhoods from flooding and keep our waterways clean.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working with others and making sure we get the job done right. There's something that never gets old about going home at the end of the day with a sense of pride — knowing you did your part and did it well.

What makes you proud to serve the community?
I was born and raised in Greeley, and I've always wanted to work for this city. My father introduced me to the sewer, water, and storm construction side of things, and my uncle — former supervisor Jay Nickerson — helped me find my way into the City. Serving the community I grew up in and still call home means everything to me. I've always felt proud and humbled to do this work, and that feeling hasn't changed.
