In a performance space like a concert hall, the ADA requires spaces connected to performance areas to be accessible for performers with disabilities. On Tuesday, a Denver City Council committee advanced a large contract to have the backstage area of Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre improved as part of a bond initiative passed last year, including complying with the ADA's requirements for the first time. Where many other cities might have argued that providing access to an area like this is too difficult or expensive, the City of Denver decided providing access for people with disabilities was also a priority.

City officials plan to complete the project over several years without disrupting any shows at the venue. Crews will do construction work only during the venue’s five-month off-season.

September is also National Recovery Month! This is an opportunity to learn more about recovery from mental health and substance use conditions, recognize the progress made in recovery, and connect with resources and information.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) may also apply to people with substance use disorders, depending on the circumstances. The ADA includes protections related to discrimination in areas such as employment, state and local government services, and places of public accommodation.

Deaf Awareness Month is an opportunity to recognize the rich culture, history, and contributions of Deaf and hard of hearing individuals while learning about communication access and inclusion.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) helps ensure that people who are Deaf or hard of hearing have equal opportunities to participate in employment, state and local government programs, public accommodations, and telecommunications. Depending on the situation, this may include qualified sign language interpreters, real-time captioning (CART), assistive listening systems, or other auxiliary aids and services to support effective communication.

Providing effective communication isn't a one-size-fits-all approach—it's about ensuring people can access information and services as equally and independently as possible.

Today, we are celebrating all dogs - including the hardworking service dogs who assist people with disabilities every day.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are generally defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.

From guiding and alerting to retrieving items and assisting with everyday activities, service dogs can play an important role in helping their handlers navigate daily life.
