At approximately 1530 hrs on May 27th, 2026, the Weld County Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of 4th Avenue. Initial reports stated that flames were visible from the home and an adjoining power line, and that an evacuation of the building was in progress. On arrival, crews upgraded this incident to a working structure fire, then pulled an attack line and began a primary search of the structure. After clearing the first floor, firefighters made the decision to climb to the second floor from the outside and perform a search from the window, due to conditions inside preventing access to the stairs. Thankfully, with no victims found inside, crews focused on finding and extinguishing the fire, which by this time has spread to the attic space. Several cuts were made to the roof to allow heat and smoke to escape before firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. Xcel Energy technicians also assessed a fallen power line and cut power to the house to ensure the safety of those working in the area. Overhaul and gas monitoring were performed to ensure the fire was completely out and that the area was safe to occupy without protective equipment. A fire investigation concluded that the fire was accidental in nature, due to improperly discarded ci******es.

One person was treated by UCHealth EMS for smoke inhalation and was later released on-scene; no other injuries occurred as a result of this fire. The American Red Cross of Colorado responded and offered assistance to the homeowner for their displacement. We’re appreciative that the quick reporting and actions of the members of this community helped to prevent any further casualties and spread of this fire. We also appreciate our partners above and the Greeley Police Department for responding to this incident and providing assistance.

As a reminder, please ensure that smoking materials are fully extinguished prior to being discarded. Use water or an ash tray to ensure they are put out all the way before leaving them. Never smoke in bed, around medical oxygen, or when you’re tired. Please make sure you have working smoke alarms throughout your home and that you have a home fire escape plan in place. Keep walkways and stairs clear of boxes and clutter so that you can make a quick escape if needed.

News like this is never easy to see, especially when it affects our local public safety community. Early Sunday morning, Berthoud Fire Lieutenant Ken Bradley was involved in a horrific motor vehicle accident while on his way to work. Thankfully, Lieutenant Bradley survived, but he and his family now face a long road to recovery. We invite you to join us in keeping him, his family, and the Berthoud Fire Protection District in your thoughts.

Ken Bradley is a lieutenant here with Berthoud Fire, and is well-known in the fire community as a dedicated teacher and leader. He and his wife, Carol, have three children, and their family has always been active in supporting others. Now, they are facing an unimaginable challenge.

On Sunday, while driving to work, Ken was critically injured in a head-on collision caused by a vehicle traveling the wrong way in the HOV lane. The accident left Ken with multiple fractures in both legs, fractures to his left arm, a dislocated right shoulder, several broken ribs, a pneumothorax, a significant leg laceration, and a concussion. He has already undergone several surgeries and will need more in the coming days to repair the extensive injuries. Despite the severity of the accident, Ken’s resilience and the support of his family have been remarkable.

Ken's extended family has set up a GoFundMe to assist- Carol and their children are making daily trips from Colorado Springs to Denver to be by Ken’s side. The road to recovery will be long, and the family is facing mounting medical bills, travel expenses, and the challenge of supporting their children during this difficult time. Donations to this fundraiser will help cover medical costs, travel expenses, and provide much-needed support for Carol and the kids as Ken heals.

We are so grateful that Ken survived, but the journey ahead is daunting. Any support for Ken, Carol, and their children is deeply appreciated. Please help this family as they navigate the difficult road ahead.

During this year's , we wanted to take a moment to recognize the effort of the first responders in this city dedicated to making sure our community gets the help it needs no matter the call. Each day, Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics in both the Greeley Fire Department and UCHealth EMS respond to countless calls for the sick and injured. Calls where our community places their trust in us to do everything we can to make sure they get the help they need, when they need it.

With this year's theme of "Improving Outcomes, Together", we're proud to support the continual efforts of these responders as they work to advance their knowledge, experience, and delivery of high quality emergency medical care to those we serve.

We had a great time working with Greeley-Evans School District 6, American Red Cross of Colorado, Greeley Police Department, UCHealth EMS, and other members from the City of Greeley on this special event. The chance to talk to students about their future careers while also preparing them for a potential future disaster doesn't come around every day. We're proud of our members that attended this event and worked throughout the day to make it enjoyable and informational for all!

Looking to make sure you're notified in case of an emergency? Make sure you're signed up for CodeRED by Crisis24, the emergency alert system adopted by Weld County. Please note that, even if you were signed up for emergency alerts through the former CodeRED system, Weld County suggests creating a new account. While creating it, we suggest you take a close look at the notification preferences you make to ensure you are getting the notifications you wish to.

If you have any questions, please use this shared post to get into contact with the Weld County Government.

After months of discussion and consideration regarding emergency notification systems, Weld County is using CodeRED by Crisis24 as its alert system designed to deliver critical information quickly during emergencies.

Anyone try and count how many times they saw our lights or heard our sirens last month? We usually get asked a fair amount just how busy we are and we figured why not show you! Starting today, we're going to post a monthly recap of our department's call volume and highlight some of the interesting things our people get up to throughout the month.

Last month, we responded to a total of 1,379 calls for an average of 46 calls per day. One "stuck" out where crews assisted one of our younger friends after they became wedged upside down in a piece of playground equipment. Thanks to the help from 2 of our crews (and some dish soap!), our buddy was able to return to class uninjured after just a few minutes.

For our unit spotlight this month, we wanted to highlight the work performed by our Squad 101 unit! If you remember our post from a few months ago, the new vehicle that was custom-made for this program has been put to work, especially over the past month. This unit, as a part of our Mobile Integrated Health Unit focuses on providing care to the members of our community that may not otherwise receive the specialized care they need. While not always responding with lights and sirens, their efforts help to make the difference for members of our community who need it most.
