December Employee Spotlight: Smoke & Charlie

Smoke and Charlie began life a little rough in an abandoned boat left in our lot in 2021. After being alerted to their existence, Jayne and Kendra began feeding our fury feline friends along with their sibling and mama. Eventually the sibling and mama disappeared, and Jayne and Kendra decided they needed to take action to save the young kittens! Jayne and Kendra were able to coax the kittens into a small animal trap with food. Then, after several months of airing out from the stench of the old boat and many, many long months of being hand fed, they settled in comfortably to their new home! The pair now enjoy a very laid back and pampered life as the Valley Fire Extinguisher Office Cats!
Mr. Smoke is a cuddler and a sucker for a good treat or manicure (as seen in the picture of him slouched in Jayne’s lap waiting to get his nails clipped)! He spends most of his day waiting for the chance to pester his sister or stretched out across the desks in the office just waiting for lovin’s, earning him the Best Paperweight Award.
Ms. Charlie is a little more reserved with her attention and prefers to not be held and only likes pats from a safe distance, except when she surprisingly crawls up into Kendra’s lap. In true cat style, she is always ready to knock any item left on a desk onto the floor, earning her the Best Anti-Paperweight Award! She does looooove men and can often be found rubbing up against any of the guys if they linger too long, which I’m sure you can imagine they absolutely enjoy… NOT! Haha

November Employee Spotlight: Chris

Chris is a military veteran and spent 4 years in Germany as a tank operator before coming back to the states where he landed working in the oilfield for Nextier OFS for 18 years. After hanging up his oilfield boots, he worked in maintenance at Sweetwater Brewery before joining us at Valley Fire Extinguisher earlier this year, rounding out our Suppression System Service Team. He has brought an easy-going, lighthearted dynamic to our team and has proven to be a quick learner, easily picking up on the new-to-him skills required for his position. Chris says he enjoys the challenges of his new career and is happy to have joined a workplace with a strong work-family atmosphere and great comradery.
Chris is a proud father to his son Cooper, who is graduating this year, and 2 daughters Carlee and Delanee. He is an avid hunter, angler and golfer and enjoys attending concerts, camping and taking road trips with family and friends, especially his kids and his girlfriend, Brittany. Chris has also started working out again and plans to start competing in bodybuilding competitions next year. In High School, Chris was a First Chair Trumpet Player and would also like everyone to know he wears a shoe size 10.5, sometimes 11, and believes aliens are responsible for the pyramids! 😂

October Employee Spotlight: Rusty

As a Weld County Native, Rusty was born and raised in Gilcrest and graduated from Valley High School. After finishing school, Rusty began work in construction, framing houses and doing concrete work. He then served in law enforcement for 27 years until retirement. After retiring, Rusty worked a few odd jobs until finally landing at Valley Fire last year, and he is proud to say this is where he’ll spend the rest of his working years. He has enjoyed that his position here allows him to manage his own schedule as well as seeing new and different businesses along the front range and meeting a plethora of new people.
In 2006 Rusty married his wife Kendra, whom we highlighted in our June Spotlight, and says he of course enjoys all of Valley Fire's "Miss June's" favorite past times and any yardwork she assigns him (smart man!). He is also an avid angler and enjoys camping and shooting. The couple resides in Greeley and Rusty shares Kendra’s affection for their children and grandchildren as well as their pack of Boston Terrier nuggets at home (most days haha).

Marty was an Air Force brat, born on base in Illinois and has lived in many places growing up including Taiwan, The Philippines, and several US states. Here at Valley, Marty is excited to be doing something completely new to him and says he has “been taken in and embraced by a bunch of people I very much enjoy working with and being around”. You can find a very cheerful Marty, carrying around a cup of coffee, and servicing extinguishers in our shop where he creates a very light and energetic atmosphere.

August Employee Spotlight: Chelsey

Chelsey was born and raised in Eaton Colorado and worked for Agfinity for over 10 years before transitioning into an operations manager for a credit reporting agency. Fun fact: she has been a licensed cosmetologist since 2013 (keeping us all looking good)! Chelsey joined the Valley Fire team in July 2022, completing the office staff. Her friendly cheerful voice is who you will more than likely hear when calling into the store. Chelsey’s efficiency with daily operations and her witty sense of humor keeps everyone in order. She also brings her tech savvy skills to the company maintaining and managing our social media page. She appreciates the close-knit work life with very supportive leadership here at Valley and enjoys interacting with a variety of customers.
Chelsey and her fiancé Tim enjoy spending time with their two children and extended family camping and riding ATV’s. She most recently became a hunter, taking her first turkey this last April (which was larger than her fiancé’s)!! Her doctor Doolittle household consists of three dogs, a cat, a fish and five chickens. There’s never a dull moment at Chelsey’s house!

July Employee Spotlight: Will

Will spent eight years serving in the United States Airforce; six years as a Jet Engine Mechanic and two years as a firefighter. After leaving the military, Will used the GI Bill to attend Physical Therapy Assistant School and then began working at Select Physical Therapy in Thornton. He started with Valley Fire in September of 2020 and is proud to work for a small family-owned business and be a part of such a fun and supportive work family. Will is our Greeley fire extinguisher technician, helps run our CO2 delivery route and is our shop manager. He enjoys getting to see the local businesses and is always happy to meet a new acquaintance.

Will spends as much of his free time in our beautiful Rocky Mountains as possible. He has hiked 32 of the 58 14er’s in Colorado and plans to tackle the rest, as well. He recently celebrated his two-year anniversary with his wife, Lyndsey. Together they share two Wirehaired Pointing Griffon dog children named Hendrix and Murray; to say they are spoiled dog children is an understatement!

June Employee Spotlight: Kendra

An Oklahoma native, Kendra attended Central State University before moving to Colorado where she earned her BA and MA from UNC. Kendra taught second through sixth grades for 35 years, 30 of those years being with School District 6, then finishing out her teaching career at Resurrection Christian School in Loveland. She retired from teaching in 2019, after being recruited by owners Jayne and Butch, and found her place with the Valley Fire family. Kendra is now very much the face of the company, always greeting customers by name in the storefront with a warm smile and welcoming hello. She is a very dedicated third of the office staff here at Valley Fire and helps see to it that day-to-day tasks run smoothly and efficiently.
Kendra and her husband Rusty (another Valley Fire kinfolk you’ll meet later this year) share two sons, three daughters and six grandchildren. They additionally have four Boston Terrier fur babies: Coady, Ember, Daisy & Boomer. Kendra spends her off time in her garden, camping and with her family, whenever possible.

Can you spy the Valley Fire humor hidden in Kendra's picture? 😆

April Employee Spotlight: Herman

Herman spent many years serving with the LaSalle Fire Department and was a long-time employee at McDoy Distributing. In 2002, Herman's son Butch called his father to bring him on board with the family-owned business, and the rest is Valley Fire history. In 2020, Herman retired from his full-time position here at Valley, but shortly after decided he wasn’t quite ready to step away. So, he returned part time and fills in anywhere he can.
Outside of work, Herman and his wife Cherlene are proud dog parents of 4 Dachshunds: Sheba, who was adopted with paralyzed back legs, Marshall, Lucy, and the newest addition Blanche. They enjoy mountain road trips on their trike motorcycle and traveling, especially if there is a beach (which Herman very happily enjoys from the shore as he cannot swim)! Herman and Cherlene have also mastered the life of well-loved grandparents!
