Hello, neighbors! Consider this your reminder that tomorrow - Tuesday, August 11 - is Election Day!
Do you have questions? Great, because we have answers!
I KEEP HEARING THAT THE TUESDAY ELECTION IS A PRIMARY. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
A primary election is how we decide who makes it on the ballot for the general election on November 3. Wisconsin has open primaries which means you do not have to be registered with a party to vote. However, when you complete your ballot, you must select a party and only vote for candidates in that party. Learn more here: https://my.lwv.org/wisconsin/wisconsins-partisan-primary-elections
WHERE AND WHEN CAN I VOTE ON TUESDAY?
⏰ All Election Day polling locations are open 7 AM – 8 PM.
📍 Some polling places have changed since the last election so before you leave home, please confirm your polling location at https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/Find-My-Polling-Place
I'M A BRAND NEW VOTER OR MY NAME/ADDRESS HAS CHANGED SINCE I LAST VOTED. CAN I STILL VOTE ON TUESDAY?
Absolutely! Wisconsin has same-day voter registration which means you can register to vote at the polls on Election Day. Note: If you've had a name or address change, you will need to re-register.
🪪 To register, you'll need a proof of residence document. A valid driver’s license works, but if that isn't available, there are plenty of other options: https://www.greenbaywi.gov/DocumentCenter/View/12919/2023-Proof-of-Residence-Documents?bidId=
DO I NEED A SPECIAL VOTER ID?
Nope, there's no such thing as a voter ID. But you will need to show a photo ID in order to receive your ballot. A driver's license works here, but if that isn't available, there are other options: https://www.greenbaywi.gov/DocumentCenter/View/12918/2024-Photo-ID-for-Voting?bidId=
WHAT IF I GET MY BALLOT AND I DON'T KNOW WHO THE CANDIDATES ARE? CAN POLL WORKERS HELP ME?
Poll workers can only explain how to complete the ballot. They cannot provide any information on the candidates. However, there are a few things you can do to prepare to vote:
🫡 Before you leave home for the polls, you can preview your ballot so you know who is running:

🔎 Still don't recognize the names or what they stand for? You can learn more about the candidates at https://www.vote411.org/
🚨 Reminder: 3 candidates have dropped out of the Governor’s race but their names will still appear on your ballot - Mandela Barnes, Missy Hughes and Sara Rodriguez.
YIKES, I HAVE AN ABSENTEE BALLOT THAT I HAVEN'T RETURNED YET! WHAT SHOULD I DO?
It is too late to mail your ballot but no worries, you can still:
🏛️ Deliver it directly to your municipal clerk’s office
🕋 Drop it in the secure boxes available in many municipalities including outside City Hall in Green Bay
📥 Drop it off at your polling place on Election Day.
⚠️ Absentee ballots must by received at your municipal clerk’s office, drop box or polling place by 8 pm on Election Day. If you've already mailed your ballot, you can track it at https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/Track-My-Ballot
FINALLY - AND THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT!
❤️🤍💙 Please be kind to your poll workers. They are community volunteers - our friends and neighbors - who care enough about democracy to do the work of administering our elections. They deserve our thanks.
Please share! While you’re at it, please text or call 5 friends or family to make sure they also have a plan to vote.
