How have you been doing on our Art Around Town Bingo Challenge? Our new staffer, Madison Smith, has been having fun trying to fill her bingo card up!

Madison is a new Planner with DCED. She previously worked at Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission, and has passion for sustainable urban design for healthier natural and built communities. While originally from British Columbia, Canada (eh!), she says she loves Green Bay because it's a small city with big character. In her personal time, she enjoys outdoor recreation and hanging out with her two dogs (Bear and Pippin), her rabbit (Hershey), her hedgehog (Pua), and her dwarf hamster (Sky).

Can you keep up with Madison's bingo card? Remember to submit your cards to this page to be entered to win FREE MERCH from the #GBSwagShop. We've got coffee mugs, stickers, coasters, bags- you name it!

As businesses across America re-open, many City governments are allowing businesses to expand their operations outdoors in order to provide a safer environment for their customers. The Green Bay Common Council will be considering our own Proclamation tomorrow evening to expand temporary use permitting into outdoor public spaces, and also create an expedited review process. This will allow our Department of Public Works to expand uses in the right-of-way, our Parks Department within our City parks, and our department to expanded uses on private property. #GreenBayGoesOn

We have some good news to share regarding flooding (yeah, we just used "good news" and flooding" in the same sentence)! Due to previous and ongoing efforts by City Staff, Green Bay's premium discount for flood insurance was increased from 15% to 20% for homeowners requiring flood insurance. We know we have a long way to go and many battles ahead in our wet city, but we are happy to see some cost savings for property owners!

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day!

On April 22, 1970, Earth Day emerged as a unified response to an environment in crisis — oil spills, smog, rivers so polluted they literally caught fire. Yikes! On that day, 20 million Americans — 10% of the U.S. population at the time — took to the streets to demand a new way forward for our planet. Since then, Earth Day has been credited with launching the modern environmental movement and is now recognized as the planet's largest civic event.

No matter where you are, you can make a difference! So if you have a chance today, get outside and enjoy the beauty of our planet and maybe even help out. Several of our staff got out today to do their part and pick up trash in their neighborhoods.

To learn more about Earth Day and get involved in the digital event visit https://www.earthday.org/

With Earth Day coming up on April 22nd, picking up trash in your neighborhood may be the perfect way to give back while social distancing. This mother-son team from our Olde Preble Neighborhood Association are already getting to work! Grab some gloves and help if you're able!

Look who we caught being good at Preble High School! Nicole and her son (a rising Preble Hornets freshman), were picking up trash on the campus. Why? "Well, we don't usually have time to do things like this," Nicole explained. "Now we do." A resident of Preble Park Neighborhood, Nicole is employed at Aspiro.
