#GreenBayGoesOn during this pandemic and we are celebrating our awesome neighborhoods this week! “Good Neighbor Week” is a week of action and awareness focusing on being a good neighbor. Good Neighbor Week is meant to help us slow down and take some time to think about those around us and the neighborhood we live in. Say hi to your neighbor, mow their lawn, pick up trash, lend a helping hand. Whatever you do, big or small, you can be the difference in someone’s day. Good Neighbors Make Great Neighborhoods

Next week is #GoodNeighborWeek in Green Bay. While socializing and community events may be limited this year, there is always an opportunity to be a good neighbor. Check out the Green Bay Neighborhood Leadership Council post below for ideas on how to participate in Good Neighbor Week!

I am sure many of us would call ourselves "good neighbors", but when was the last time you said Hi or did a good deed for one of your immediate neighbors? In today's society it is so easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle of life and take our own neighbors and neighborhoods for granted. As they say, “Good neighbors make great neighborhoods”. #goodneighborweek #greenbayneighborhoods

Recently the City of Green Bay DCED partnered with SAGE, a local arts advocacy organization in Green Bay, to participate in their Unity + Diversity art exhibit inspired by the BLM movement and the community dialog that was, and still is, taking place. City Hall has joined in the project as a gallery space, and we are glad to take part in the exhibit and as an important component of the conversation.

City Hall is closed to the public currently but work by Valerie Steinken, Xavier Horkman, and Mike Riley is currently on display in the 6th floor hallway gallery at City Hall. Each of these artists created work meant to engage the viewer in the Unity + Diversity dialog and we hope you take an opportunity to pause and consider the message with us. We hope it inspires you to talk openly about our diverse community and the things that can bring us all together.

If you are interested in viewing the artwork in person, you can schedule an appointment with Laura Schley at [email protected] #GBPAC

Bicyclists, hold onto your bike shorts: the City has its FIRST buffered bike lane! Take a cruise along Walnut Street from Webster to Baird and you'll see a 4' buffer between the drive lane and the new bike lane. This was a recommendation from our Safe Walk & Bike Plan and was easily accomplished with just some paint. This, along with new bike lanes along Radisson and Irwin from Webster to Bay Beach, added 2.62 miles of bike lanes to our city in about TWO DAYS. This brings our City total to just under 36 miles of bike lanes! Thanks to our City of Green Bay Public Works team for their work on this!

“Good Neighbors make Great Neighborhoods”

We at DCED believe that one of Green Bay’s best attributes is its neighborhoods. Over the years, Green Bay has hosted numerous leaders from all over Wisconsin to share with them the great work you and the Neighborhood Associations of Green Bay are doing to make our neighborhoods the best around. And what makes our neighborhoods great? You and others like you who care about where they live and their fellow neighbor.

Thank you for being such good neighbors! In celebration, check out our new billboard at the corner of Pine and Monroe. If you would like to learn more about neighborhood associations or how to make a difference in your neighborhood, call 448-3150.

How have you been doing on our Art Around Town Bingo Challenge? Our new staffer, Madison Smith, has been having fun trying to fill her bingo card up!

Madison is a new Planner with DCED. She previously worked at Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission, and has passion for sustainable urban design for healthier natural and built communities. While originally from British Columbia, Canada (eh!), she says she loves Green Bay because it's a small city with big character. In her personal time, she enjoys outdoor recreation and hanging out with her two dogs (Bear and Pippin), her rabbit (Hershey), her hedgehog (Pua), and her dwarf hamster (Sky).

Can you keep up with Madison's bingo card? Remember to submit your cards to this page to be entered to win FREE MERCH from the #GBSwagShop. We've got coffee mugs, stickers, coasters, bags- you name it!

As businesses across America re-open, many City governments are allowing businesses to expand their operations outdoors in order to provide a safer environment for their customers. The Green Bay Common Council will be considering our own Proclamation tomorrow evening to expand temporary use permitting into outdoor public spaces, and also create an expedited review process. This will allow our Department of Public Works to expand uses in the right-of-way, our Parks Department within our City parks, and our department to expanded uses on private property. #GreenBayGoesOn
