There has been a lot of tragedy recently in Wisconsin with multiple line of duty deaths, active duty deaths, and retiree deaths. As we mourn the losses we do our best to honor the fallen. Flag Lowering Order

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #150 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff tomorrow, Wed., Dec. 29, 2021, in honor of firefighter Stephen M. Smith of the Vandenbroek-Kaukauna Fire Department, who lost his life in the line of duty after contracting COVID-19.

“We extend our sincerest sympathies to Steve’s wife and kids, his friends, and his colleagues as they grapple with his tragic loss,” said Gov. Evers. “To those who knew him, Steve was a good friend and someone who cared deeply about others, and he will be missed by the many whose lives he affected.”

On Mon., Dec. 20, 2021, at the age of 54, Smith passed away after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Smith was a dedicated firefighter at Vandenbroek-Kaukauna Fire Department, who will be remembered for his dedication and service to others. The funeral liturgy will be held on Wed., Dec. 29, 2021, in Kaukauna.

Executive Order #150 will be in effect from sunrise to sunset on Wed., Dec. 29, 2021.

Today the Green Bay Firefighters Honor Guard is saddened to learn of the LODD passing of Battalion Chief Sean Slowey of the Milwaukee Fire Department. GBFFHG is keeping the Milwaukee Fire Department and the family of Battalion Chief Sean Slowey in our thoughts and prayers durning this difficult time. Sunday, October 3rd, President Biden has ordered the flag will be flown at half-staff in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service and to pay our respects to brave firefighters and first responders who risk their lives to protect Americans. The flag will be lowered for the entire day on Sunday.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department. Green Bay, WI
Lieutenant Miller was found collapsed on the floor in the fire station near his bunk in the early morning hours of June 20, 2015, and was quickly attended to by other department members who found no vital signs present. Lieutenant Miller was pronounced deceased in the location found at 04:55AM. Lieutenant Miller was working a 24 hour shift and had responded to his last alarm, an EMS call, several hours earlier. Lieutenant Miller was assigned to Station 3 on A Shift. Lieutenant Miller had loyally served his community for over 18 years.

Gov. Evers Orders Flags to Half-Staff as a Mark of Respect for Capt. Durwood "Hawk" Jones of the Wisconsin Air National Guard's 115th Fighter Wing

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today signed Executive Order #98 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for Capt. Durwood "Hawk" Jones. Capt. Jones was a pilot with the 115th Fighter Wing out of Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison and passed away on Tues., Dec. 8, 2020 while participating in a routine training mission in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

“Capt. Jones was a decorated combat veteran, a selfless hero serving both at home and abroad, and a caring father, husband, and son,” said Gov. Evers. “Our hearts break for his wife and kids and his family, and Kathy and I join the people of our state in offering our condolences. We will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers. We're thinking of all of Capt. Jones' loved ones and his fellow service members in the 115th Fighter Wing and the Wisconsin National Guard.”

Gov. Evers Order Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #97 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Mon., Dec. 7, 2020 on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The attack on the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor on the Hawaiian island of O'ahu took the lives of 2,403 Americans and injured 1,178 more.

“The attack on Pearl Harbor was a turning point not only for World War II but for our country, deeply impacting Americans across our state and nation,” said Gov. Evers. “Each year, Wisconsin remembers the bravery and sacrifice demonstrated by Americans on O'ahu that day, and honors the enduring legacy of our veterans, including the more than 5,800 World War II veterans currently living in Wisconsin, who fought to preserve and defend the freedoms and quality of life enjoyed by folks across our country today.”

Flag lowering order

Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #96 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff in honor of Cpt. Kelly Lynn Raether of the Town of Ixonia Fire & EMS. Raether passed away on Nov. 26, 2020 after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty as she responded to the emergency medical needs of a COVID-19 patient.

Executive order #96 is effective immediately and ends at sunset on Sat., Dec. 5, 2020.

The United States Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a nationwide effort to remember America's fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the tax-exempt, nonprofit Foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor our fallen fire heroes and assist their families and coworkers.

The 39th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2020, to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty.

In accordance to Public Law 107-51, the American flag should be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, October 4, 2020 from sunrise to sunset in observance of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

Friday, September 11th, 2020 marks the 19 year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 which crashed in suburban Pennsylvania. Patriot Day serves as a remembrance of the lives lost on that September morning.

By a joint resolution approved 12/18/2001, (Public Law 107-89) has designated September 11th of each year as "Patriot Day" which also directs the flags be lowered to half-staff for the entire day on September 11.

A section of the law is below:

''§ 144. Patriot Day''(a) DESIGNATION.-September 11 is Patriot Day.''(b) PROCLAMATION.-The President is requested to issue each year a proclamation calling on-

''(1) State and local governments and the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate programs and activities;

''(2) all departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the United States and interested organizations and individuals to display the flag of the United States at halfstaff on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001; and'

'(3) the people of the United States to observe a moment of silence on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001.''.

Today, Governor Evers issued Executive Order #87 relating to a proclamation that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin be flown at half-staff in honor of Deputy Richard "Rick" Treadwell of the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Deputy Treadwell passed away on August 22, 2020 after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.

Please ensure that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin are flown at half-staff at all state facilities beginning at sunrise on Monday, August 31, 2020 and ending at sunset on that day.

The Governor of Wisconsin has ordered flags to fly at half-staff, Tuesday, August 25, 2020, as a mark of respect for Pfc. Evan A. Bath of the United States Marine Corps.
