June is Men's Health Month!
Did you know that men are biologically more likely to develop type 2 diabetes at a lower weight than women?

The good news is that this is preventable! Join Green Lake County's Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) to help you build healthy habits that last.

Call Nancy at Green Lake County Health Department for more information, or to enroll in an upcoming session at 920-294-4070.

On July 15, join fellow parents, community leaders, and local youth for a “plunge” related to smart phone and digital media use. (LUNCH PROVIDED!)

We will explore survey data collected this spring from Princeton School District youth (grades 4-12) and parents/caregivers related to current behaviors and opportunities to create an environment in which our young people can thrive. The data collection is led by Dr. Amy Washbush of the Co-Create Center at UW Madison.

This plunge is hosted by ThedaCare -led CHAT (Community Health Action Teams) and the newly forming SYNC (Supporting Youth, Nurturing Connection) Coalition.

Warmer days are finally here! ☀️

However, with the benefits of warmer weather, also come the challenges. Many of us attend more get togethers which can lead to eating and drinking higher calorie, less healthy options.

To help keep on track, we will share a few ideas, throughout the month, for how to stay healthier together this summer:
• Check out farmers’ markets and make trips to “pick-your-own” farms and orchards. Kids may be more likely to try new foods they pick themselves. Plus, the whole family can get in more activity. 🍉🍓🍅🥦🥕🌽🧅

If your results show a risk, call the Health Department to speak with Nancy and learn about our Diabetes Prevention Program at 920-294-4070.

May highlights from the Green Lake County Health Department! 🌷🌳🔆

~Green Lake County employees joined together to wear GREEN in May to support, spark conversations, and help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health struggles. 💚
~Green Lake County Health and Human Services held a Let's Taco 'Bout Mental Health lunch to also bring awareness and lessen the stigma around mental health. 🌮
~Nancy, Public Health Nurse, helped to stock one of the little free libraries in the county with children's books. Find a little free library this summer and keep reading! 📚
~Rachel, Health Officer, Allison, Public Health Nurse, Kyle, Environmental Health Specialist, and Amber, our partner from Marquette County and our REHA program attended a foodborne outbreak exercise.
~Lisa, Public Health Nurse, Lauren Deputy Health Officer, attending the Alliance for WI Youth meeting on behalf of the Green Lake County United for Prevention coalition to share about work being completed.
~Nancy presented at the Berlin Senior Center on stroke awareness and prevention.
~Allison also hosted two CPR certification classes in May at Green Lake Townsquare and also at the Boys and Girls Club in Berlin. Watch for future classes offered in the community! 💓
~We also had many community meetings to attend this month and continuing our planning for our 2nd annual Green Lake County Community Day and Sports Camp in partnership with Terrace Shores Church and FCA on July 8th (see flyer in pictures)!
Hope to see you in the community in June!

June 4, 2026
⚠️CAUTION⚠️ Blue Green Algae Bloom at County Hwy K Marsh boat launch!

We have a confirmed blue-green algae bloom in the County Hwy K boat launch that is positive for Anatoxin-a.

The Green Lake Association will continue to monitor the bloom. Please check back for updates!

Blue-green algae blooms are toxic to human and pet health. The toxins produced during a bloom can cause severe illness if ingested or contacted. Use caution around the water in the area of the advisory or if, at any time, you see the water showing the blue-green color characteristic of an algal bloom and the appearance of pea soup.

Algae conditions can change quickly with shifts in wind and temperature. Always use your best judgement and look for visual signs before entering the water. Watch for signs like:

-Water that looks like green paint or pea soup
-Discolored streaks or surface scum
-An unusual or foul smell
