Our partners at the Green Lake Association have launched their weekly Green Lake Beach status map! Check back often to keep up to date on the status of our beaches!

The Green Lake Association is excited to launch our new weekly Green Lake Beach Status Map, developed in partnership with the Green Lake County Public Health and the Green Lake Sanitary District.

Beginning today, we'll post an updated map every Friday by noon, providing the latest information from the GLA's blue-green algae (tested on Thursdays) and GLSD's E. coli (tested on Mondays) monitoring efforts at public access points around Green Lake.

This map is designed to provide residents and visitors a snapshot of current conditions to help everyone make informed decisions about enjoying the lake.

How we monitor for blue-green algae:

Each week, the GLA's program team conducts a visual assessment and collects water samples from locations around Green Lake to look for signs of a blue-green algae bloom.

During our visual assessments, we look for:
-Surface scum
-Streaking on the water
-Blue-green "spilled paint" or "pea soup" appearances
-Reduced water clarity

Visual assessments are complemented with rapid field screening tests for Anatoxin-a and Microcystin, the two most common toxins associated with blue-green algae blooms, using rapid field screening tests. While blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, can produce other toxins, these are the most frequently encountered and provide valuable information for public health decision-making.

We also consider factors such as wind, temperature, and precipitation, all of which can influence bloom development and movement around the lake.

This monitoring program is also building a long-term dataset that will help us better understand how weather and water quality influence blue-green algae conditions overtime.

Got a student in grades 6-12 who lives for game day? Registration is officially open for the FCA Sports Camp on Wednesday, July 8th!

Presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, this camp offers instruction in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball. Open to any student from any school district, and registration is $15!

When: July 8th from 12:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Where: Princeton School District

Stay after camp for a free community dinner, free haircuts, and free WIAA sports physicals from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM!

🌲Heading out to the trails or the lake this week? HEADS UP: tick activity is peaking across Wisconsin right now.

Nymphal deer ticks are only the size of a poppy seed, making them very easy to miss.

Here's how to protect yourself:

1. Dryer blast: Toss outdoor clothes in the dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill hidden ticks.

2. Perform tick checks: Scan the scalp, behind knees, and armpits right when you get inside.

3. Spray smart: Use an EPA-approved repellent with DEET or picaridin.

If you find one, use tweezers to pull it straight out, and call a doctor if a fever or rash develops later!

🚨RECALL🚨: Nara Organics Infant Formula

Nara Organics is voluntarily recalling all lots of its Powdered Infant Formula due to a potential risk of Clostridium botulinum contamination, which can cause infant botulism. Three hospitalizations have been reported.

Products include: 700g and 400g cans of Nara Organics Whole Milk Powdered Infant Formula.

Sold in: Target stores, Target.com, and Nara.com between July 2025 and June 2026.
