Hello Green Lake County! Attached is the 2027 Poster Contest packet with the theme “From Source to Sea: Every Drop Has a Journey”.

Please share with your children and other children in Green Lake County anyone can enter on their own since this does not have to be related to a school project!

The contest is open to any Green Lake County student in Grades K-12.

Land Conservation's Soil Conservationist, Olivia Fischer, is available as a resource to you. Feel free to email her ([email protected]) or contact the Land Conservation office to coordinate a presentation if you are interested.

The contest will wrap up the contest on JANUARY 8, 2027!

NEXT THURSDAY!!! Beef producers who currently direct market their beef or are considering doing so are invited to a workshop on August 20th. This event is hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension, joined by the Wisconsin Beef Council, and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. Topics of discussion for the workshop include:

Easy to Use Marketing Tools – Kaitlyn Kesler with the Wisconsin Beef Council will share tips on free resources that can be used to create flyers, social media posts and other resources to help market your beef online, along with showcasing the recipes, cut charts and other resources available through the Beef Checkoff.
Licensing & Labeling Requirements – Whether your farm is looking to direct market quarters and halves or is interested in retail sales of individual cuts of beef, this segment will bring you up to speed on the requirements for licensing and labeling. Speakers: Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection, Bureau of Meat and Poultry Businesses Staff
Meating Consumer Expectations – UW-Madison Extension will discuss quality and yield grades, dressing percentage, understanding when cattle are finished, and considerations for animal size to match marketing plans. All these factors can affect consumer experience, expectations, and satisfaction. Useful spreadsheets will also be discussed that help buyers and sellers determine sale prices for direct marketing wholes, haves, or quarters of beef animals, as well as calculating estimated returns and cost of production tools.
