During Splash Zone, we encourage splashing, water guns, reusable water balloons, and interactive water play. Some water soakers will be provided, or you can bring your own. It’s the perfect time for kids (and kids at heart) to bring the energy and make waves! 🌊🔫

GREEN RIVER, Wyo. The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) and contract crews from DeBernardi Construction will begin work on the Interstate 80 bridge on the west end of the Green River Tunnels beginning Monday, August 17. Crews will be replacing the bridge deck on the eastbound bridge.

While crews are working on the eastbound structure, drivers will see single lane closure protected by concrete barriers on the eastbound lanes as crews work on half of the bridge at a time. Motorists should expect reduced speeds and narrow lanes while the work is underway.

While the work is underway, the eastbound on ramp at exit 89 on the west end of Green River will be closed to traffic. Drivers can access Interstate 80 on the east end of Green River at exit 91 on and off ramps.

A width restriction of 10 feet will be in effect through the construction zone and on the I-80 business route, Flaming Gorge Way, in Green River. More information about width restrictions, permits and alternates routes, drivers can contact the WYDOT permit office at 307-777-4894.

The completion date for this work is October 31, 2026.

🎉 The Nursery Room is BACK! | Opening Week: August 17–21

Green River families, we've been counting down the days — our Nursery Room at the Green River Rec Center is officially reopening for a brand-new season on Monday, August 17! 🥳 We've missed all our littles, and we can't wait to welcome them back for another year of music, crafts, games, and hands-on fun while you enjoy your workout, class, or a little quiet time for yourself.

This Week's Activities Include:

🎵 Music & Movement:
Welcome-back songs, scarf dancing, summer sing-alongs with egg shakers and musical instruments, and an end-of-summer jam session!

🎨 Creative Crafts:
Felt jellyfish, ice cream sponge painting, decorate-your-own crowns, chalk drawing on black paper, and paper plate sailboats!

🤸 Active Play & Exercise:
Indoor/outdoor play, racquetball court games with balls, obstacle courses, toddler yoga, and chalk drawing fun!

📚 Quiet Time:
Books and puzzles each day to help wind down and relax

👶 Ages: 3 months–7 years
🕘 Time: 9:00–11:30 AM
💲 Cost: $4/hour per child

Due to drought conditions around the state, Wyoming Game and Fish Department biologists are reporting a surge in big game animals clustering along highways and rights-of-way, driven by a search for food and water.

When the prairie and mountain forage browns out, the asphalt infrastructure of Wyoming roadways creates an unintended oasis. Roadsides and borrow pits are engineered to drain water away from highways, making them hold onto critical moisture much longer than the surrounding arid landscape.

How motorists can help:
🚧Slow down and scan: Lower your speeds, particularly when traveling through rural or open-range country. Actively scan the green ditches or area between the roadway and the right-of-way fence where animals are often actively feeding.
🦌🦌Expect a crowd: If you see one pronghorn or deer cross the road, immediately slow down, and assume there are several more to follow.
🌅Use caution during dusk and dawn: Big game animals are most active during the cooler hours of early morning and late evening. Drive with increased awareness during these low-visibility windows.

The Green River Council and Mayor met with Nick Walrath, Conservation Coordinator for the Seedskadee Trout Unlimited group Tuesday afternoon at the Zehawi ponds in Green River. Walrath says the proposed Zehawi Pond project is something his group has been working on for several years.
Walrath says the project’s goal is to have a fishing pond, expand the current ponds, and enhance the existing wetlands. He says the resources and funding are in collaboration with Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Bureau of Reclamation and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
Once complete, the Game and Fish plans to stock the current pond that features an exhisting dock.
Walrath says the project is in its early stages and prior to continuing, they wanted to make sure the City of Green River was in support of the project. Walrath says the project cost is expected not to exceed $500,000 and could be completed in 2028. Funds are expected to be grant dollars.
