Happy National Trails Day! We're a few days late on this, but we love trails at Goblin Valley!

While the park is best known for exploring among the hoodoos, we also have many miles of wonderful trails to explore! These include Carmel Canyon, Goblin's Lair, Entrada Canyon, Grand Circle, Toadstool Canyon, Curtis Bench and 7 miles of mountain bike trails. We also maintain several trailheads that lead onto surrounding BLM lands.

Information on trails can be found at https://stateparks.utah.gov/parks/goblin-valley/hiking-in-goblin-valley/

The heat is on at Goblin Valley!

If you are visiting the park from now through the fall, expect heat and sun! Average daily temperatures going forward will be in the 90's and low 100's and there is little shade in the park. Please take appropriate precautions to avoid a heat emergency while exploring the park by:

-Ending your adventure by 10 or 11am to avoid mid-day heat
-Bringing plenty of water (at least 32oz per person, per hour)
-Wearing lite clothing and using sunscreen or sun clothing
-Eating salty snacks or using electrolytes
-Knowing your route, physical condition and limitations
-Planning shorter excursions than you might in cooler conditions

POV on the Dark Side of the Moon mountain bike trail! This is one of the furthest-out trail loops and provides astounding views, fun riding and an uncanny feeling that you’re actually riding on the moon! This trail is also a great hiking or running destination. Stop by the visitor center for a map or directions on your next visit.

Bees in the desert? Yes! These are honey bees residing in one of the cottonwoods along Wildhorse Creek. Pollinators are very important for the desert ecosystem and include honeybees like these, various native solitary bees, moths and pallid bats. If you follow us on Instagram you’ve been seeing all of the amazing wildflowers blooming right now that depend on these species.

We have exciting news for those who use the mountain bike trails, disc golf course, Curtis Bench or Toadstool Canyon trails! You no longer need to scour the area for the tallest rabbitbrush when nature calls, or hide the TP under a rock! A new vault toilet is available for your use and convenience at the trailhead. Enjoy!

Park rangers and DNR Law Enforcement responded to a report of a child stuck on a cliff today, approximately 50’ above the valley floor. Rangers were able to perform a technical rescue and safely got her down with no injuries. Emery County Search and Rescue also responded to the call.

While the rescue was a success, it is a good reminder that it is easy to get in over your head while scrambling on rocks. It is usually far easier to go up than to go down, and this can quickly put you in a scary position. When visiting the park, we encourage you to have fun, but please focus on safety at the same time. Don’t have “too much fun”!
