GRHS Forensics students recently launched their Arson Unit with an engaging exploratory project. Working in groups, students created original arson scenarios and then constructed model houses to bring their investigations to life. On Monday morning, members of the Green River Fire Department visited GRHS to assist the students as they safely set fire to their models and observed the results.

At approximately 3:00 PM today, your Green River Fire Department, alongside Castle Rock Ambulance Service, Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol, responded to a reported vehicle fire at Love’s Travel Stop in Jamestown.

Upon arrival, Love’s employees had already begun using fire extinguishers, which allowed GRFD crews to make a quick and effective attack on the remaining fire. The cause was determined to be a plastic tote that had caught fire after being positioned in front of the vehicle’s exhaust when situated on a back cargo carrier.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

Following the incident, GRFD and the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office assisted the traveler in getting back to the U-Haul station in Green River. Crews also helped unload and transfer the remaining belongings from the vehicle into a U-Haul so the traveler could safely continue on their way.

A huge thank you to all responding agencies for their teamwork and to the employees at Love’s for their quick actions before crews arrived. Their fast response helped prevent the situation from becoming much worse.

We would also like to thank our community partners and first responders for their continued support and dedication to keeping our travelers and community safe.
Sweetwater Sheriff’s office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Castle Rock Ambulance Service and Sweetwater Combined Communications.

As always, we are GR! And always proud to be!

SWEETWATER COUNTY IS UNDER A RED FLAG WARNING! PLEASE SHARE THE FOLLOWING:

Creating Defensible Space Around Your Home

With spring right around the corner, wildfire risk across our area is already higher than usual as evident with the Scott’s Bottom Fire recently. With this in mind, now is the perfect time to start preparing your yard and property! One of the best ways to protect your home is by creating defensible space - a buffer between your home and vegetation that can help slow or stop the spread of wildfire!

It’s also important to remember that wildfires don’t just impact areas right next to the flames!! Spot fires can occur downwind of a wildfire, sometimes up to a mile or more away. This means that even if you’re not on the edge of town or in a rural area, your home can still be at risk.

Here are a few simple steps you can start this week:
✔ Thatch, mow, and trim grass regularly as it begins to grow this spring.
✔ Remove weeds, leaves, pine needles, and yard debris from around your home, fences, and outbuildings.
✔ Clear vegetation and debris from gutters, decks, and under porches.
✔ Move firewood piles and flammable materials away from structures.
✔ If you’re concerned about pollinators that may still be hibernating, consider watering down vegetation before removing it or cleaning up gradually as the season warms.

Taking these small steps now can make a big difference in slowing fire spread and giving firefighters a safer area to work if a wildfire occurs!

A little preparation now helps protect your home, your neighbors, and our community!
Stay safe, Green River! We are GR!!

REMINDER: CMS CORRALS ARE PRIVATE PROPERTY

We are receiving multiple complaints about unauthorized traffic at the CMS Corrals in the Scott’s Bottom / FMC Park area.

The horse corrals are not a scenic byway, sightseeing stop, or attraction for public viewing. They are private property, and the area is clearly marked with Private Property / No Trespassing signage.

If you do not belong there, do not enter.

Anyone found on the property without authorization risks enforcement action, including a trespass citation, fines, or arrest.

We are asking the public to use common sense and respect the property, the owners, and the ongoing work taking place in the area.

The Green River Fire Department and the Third Alarm Team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible community we are fortunate enough to call home!

Once again, the people and businesses of Green River showed up in full force! Shortly after the fire broke out at Scott’s Bottom and the horse corrals, messages began pouring in - texts, Facebook messages, and phone calls from community members asking how they could help and what they could donate to support our first responders.

Food and drinks were quickly dropped off at the fire station, and our team worked to transport those items to all of the agencies responding to the fire. This included Green River Fire, Rock Springs Wildland Firefighters, Sweetwater County Fire District #1, the Green River Water Department, Sweetwater County Water Resources (including the loader and operator), Green River Police Department, Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and Castle Rock Ambulance, Green River Public Works, The Archery Club, City of Green River, US Wildland Fire Service Department of Interior, Sweetwater Combined Communications.

We know there were many people who contributed, and while we may not have every name, we would like to recognize those we were able to gather!!

From our own Third Alarm Team:
Katie Rider, Nancy Rider, Debbie Serrano, Nicki Conner, Ashlinn Bowles, and Sarah and Emily Johnston.

From our amazing community members and businesses:
Lacey Jacks with Loaf Society, Bruce King, Ada and Spring Spellman, Jesse Kniep, Arctic Circle, Racheal Cummings, The Hill Church, Pizza Hut, Tiffany Rayback, Payton Shiner, Tiffany Lundgren at Smith’s and the many generous customers who purchased food that was brought over by the truckload from Smith’s, and Earth wise Apothecary and The Whistle Stop.

And to the countless others who reached out offering help in any way they could - your generosity ensured that our first responders stayed hydrated, fed, and supported while they worked to protect our community!!

A big thank you to all the horse corral owners for their help and patience, and to the families of our GRFD firefighters for the long hours that were needed by each of our firefighters.

Green River continues to prove that when something happens, this town comes together!

We are truly grateful to live in such an amazing community. Saying “thank you” hardly feels like enough, but please know how much your support means!

Thank you, Green River!! We are GR!!!!

UPDATE: CMS CORRALS ANIMAL RETRIEVAL

As of 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office is coordinating with a representative for the primary landowner at the CMS horse corrals, Christina Sanders.

We have a running list of property and animal owners at FMC Park’s CMS Corrals. Ms. Sanders will be reaching out to people individually, at the direction of law enforcement, to facilitate animal retrieval only.

There are still active hot spots in the area. Please do not go in unless and until you have been contacted and directed to do so.

If you are contacted, proceed with caution and follow all guidance from law enforcement personnel on scene.

This is not the time to inventory, assess, or gather property. At this stage, access is being allowed for animal rescue and retrieval only.

We appreciate everyone’s patience, cooperation, and understanding as we work through this as safely as possible.
