Friday night GVFD was dispatched to a residential structure fire in our district in Chatham Township. The cause was storm related and was from a lightning strike. First unit on scene was E10 from CTFD who was out on a prior call and was able to redirect and get a quick jump on the call. GVFD and CFD were able to respond immediately and follow up suppression, search and overhaul efforts. Fortunately the fire was held to the attic with slight extension into an adjacent room. A big thanks to all the mutual aid partners who helped on scene, station coverage and covering the additional calls while we operated. We are happy to report the homeowners and their pet who were home at the time of the lighting strike were unharmed and safe. We had one firefighter go to the hospital due to the high humidity and heat related condition. This was precautionary and that firefighter was released the same evening. Thank you for all that reached out with your concerns. This was a well coordinated effort by all agencies and shows the true nature of the fire service-covering and caring for all its community and one another. Thank you CTFD, CFD, NVFD, Madison Fire, Chatham Emergency Squad, CTPD, Summit Fire and New providence Fire for your support.
