Good afternoon β Please find updates following our first official EM Municipal call with the PBC Division of Emergency Management this morning:
Location & Movement:
As of 11:00 AM EST, Hurricane Milton's eye was located at latitude 21.7 North, longitude 91.7 West.
The storm is moving east-southeast at approximately 9 mph.
An eastward to east-southeastward motion is forecast through tonight, followed by a turn toward the east and northeast on Tuesday and Wednesday. Milton is expected to pass just north of the Yucatan Peninsula and travel across the Southern Gulf of Mexico on Monday and Tuesday.
The hurricane is projected to approach the west coast of the Florida Peninsula by Wednesday.
The path of this hurricane is still uncertain and expected to change at each update.
Current Strength:
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 160 mph, with higher gusts making it a Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
Hurricane-force winds extend up to 30 miles from the center, while tropical-storm-force winds reach up to 80 miles.
Localized Wind Expectations:
The current wind field is expected to expand.
PBC currently has a 53% chance of experiencing tropical-storm-force sustained winds beginning Wednesday afternoon to evening.
There is a 6% chance of PBC experiencing sustained hurricane force winds.
Currently the tornado threat is low.
Localized Rainfall Expectations:
Local rainfall amounts are expected to be 3-4 inches on the high in addition to the rainfall we are already receiving. The current rainfall is not part of Hurricane Milton.
There is a significant risk of flash, urban, and areal flooding.
Palm Beach County is currently under a Flood Watch.
Local State of Emergency:
Palm Beach County has issued a Local State of Emergency effective today. Their declaration has been attached.
In response to PBCβs declaration, we as a city have prepared a local declaration out of an abundance of caution and plan to have it executed with the signature of the mayor.
Palm Beach County EOC & Operation:
The Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains operating at Level III Enhanced Monitoring and is actively participating in ongoing coordination efforts.
There are no decisions on evacuations or shelters opening currently. This will be discussed further by tomorrow.
County government offices are open today and tomorrow.
Schools are still planning to be open tomorrow with further decisions to be made at a later point.
No press conferences are scheduled at this point from PBC.
PBC remains in communication with the SFWMD, PBSO, PBC School District, LWMD and other partners.
The next EM Municipal Call is planned to be held on Tuesday morning unless one is needed prior.
Greenacres Operations:
As of Monday, city services are currently operating as normal.
The City Council meeting scheduled for 6:00PM will resume as scheduled.
Waste collections is currently operating on its normal schedule. Waste Management is surveying the routes to ensure bulk, and vegetation have been collected.
Greenacres' Public Works Department has been working diligently to clear storm drains and secure buildings & grounds.
Staff are in communication with contractors of active job sites and crews will remove or secure exposed materials (including stockpiles/loose debris) and equipment, store equipment and materials safely, and cancel deliveries to the jobsite for the duration of the storm.
The Community Conversation on Women's Health - Breast & Cervical Cancer scheduled for Wednesday, October 9 has been POSTPONED to a new date to be determined.
