Always important to try to live up to the Greenbelt Community Pledge, but even more so in these times when our transgender family and friends are facing the threat of policy reversions on a wider scale that are so very harmful.

During the March 23 City Council Meeting, the Greenbelt City Council passed a resolution recognizing March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility in the City of Greenbelt. Transgender Day of Visibility is a time to honor and celebrate the courage, resilience, and contributions of transgender and nonbinary people in Greenbelt and around the world.

The Greenbelt Community Pledge reminds us that “The strength of Greenbelt is diverse people living together in a spirit of cooperation. We celebrate all people. By sharing together all are enriched.”

On this day, we affirm our commitment to being a respectful, welcoming community that is open, accessible, safe, and fair for everyone. We celebrate you.

Enjoyed attending “Planning in Our County - A Course for Municipal Officials” hosted by the Prince George’s County Planning Department on Saturday, along with Councilmember Danielle McKinney and Councilmember Frankie Fritz. While I’ve picked up bits and pieces of the planning and zoning process as a result of projects and topics that have come before council in the last four+ years, It was nice to get a full overview of all the steps. I especially enjoyed the history presentation describing throughlines of transportation via rivers, railroad and cars and how that shaped housing and economic patterns in the county.

I meant to share this earlier, but there are still a few days in the officual comment period on the region’s Visualize 2050 transportation plan. Here’s a video summary, https://youtu.be/bK3A3WvH5Fw, and the page for more information and the comment links, https://visualize2050.org. It’s also possible to send public comment at any time to the Transportation Planning Board, https://www.mwcog.org/transportation/about-tpb/getting-involved/.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

A full and busy weekend in Greenbelt! It kicked off Saturday morning with the Dora Kennedy French Immersion School Diabetes 3K/5K Run/Walk at Buddy Attick Park, followed by a Save as You Throw Q&A webinar hosted by Green ACES and the Green Team (which doesn't appear in the video). Then I stopped by the book signing at the Community Center for young Greenbelter Jordan Owens' second (!) book, "The X Brothers." Later in the afternoon was the opening of the DMV Iron gym in Greenway Center, a Fashion Show at Beltway Plaza, and the Reparations Commission's Town Hall.

Sunday was a packed house for the Greenbelt Community Orchestra's concert featuring Debussy, Chaminade, Gershwin, and Bizet (the Toreador Song from the Carmen Suites serves as the soundtrack for the video.) I love the variety of activities we always have going on in Greenbelt!

Thrilled to have been able to plug in my car at the new level 2 chargers next to the Municipal Building while I grabbed lunch in the center today! They are free for now (although you will need to download the ChargePoint app to activate a session) until we implement a fee structure by Council resolution (first reading on Monday, second reading in December.)

Quite an honor to have such distinguished visitors in our city for Veterans Day! Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve, and their loved ones who support them.

Thank you to Governor Moore, First Lady Moore, County Executive Braveboy, County Councilmember Watson and State Senator Alonzo Washington and Delegates Anne Healey and Nicole Williams for attending the Veterans Day Celebration here in Greenbelt hosted by the Greenbelt American Legion Post 136. I’m grateful to all who have served and continue to serve to protect freedom and democracy here and abroad.

Thank you Greenbelt for choosing me to serve you for another term on City Council! I’m also thrilled with the increase in voter turnout we saw this year, and the willingness to explore ranked choice voting!

I’m pictured here at the election night watch party with my father, Ken, and my mother, Paulette, who are my original inspirations for a life in service (as an educator and an elected official), to always do my best to be thoughtful and kind to others, and to use my skills to do good in the world. And they met working for a political campaign in Colorado in 1972, so it makes some sense I am where I am now. 🙂

It was a musical and lyrical Saturday in Greenbelt today, between the poetry and choral performance at the Greenbelt Emancipation Day celebration organized by the Greenbelt Black History and Culture Committee, and chamber music at the New Deal Cafe with the Greenbelt Community Orchestra!
