Lions Clubs – Ready to Help, Worldwide

Whenever a Lions Club gets together, problems get smaller. That's because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy. The World's Largest Service Club Organization

Our 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million members make us the world's largest service club organization. We're also one of the most ef

fective. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children and adults who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat and with people we may never meet.

Lions from the Greenbelt, Bowie and South Potomac Lions Clubs worked side by side providing hearing, preschool vision and adult vision screenings at Springhill Lake Recreation Center on August 18th from 10am-1pm.

📊 Our Impact in Just 3 Hours:

👁️👂20 of the 40 people screened were referred for professional follow-up to further evaluate potential vision or hearing concerns.

🤝 16 community vendors provided health, family and community resources.

🏘️ Several hundred community residents attended the Health Fair, along with a number of elected officials.

Every screening represents more than a number. It represents a child preparing to enter the classroom ready to learn, a parent gaining helpful information, or a community member taking an important step toward better health.

The Health Fair brought organizations from across the community together with one goal: helping Greenbelt families start the school year strong. ❤️

A special THANK YOU to all of our Lions who gave their time and talents, to the Lions Community Outreach Foundation, our fellow community partners, and everyone who helped make this event such a success.

Different clubs. One community. One mission: WE SERVE. 🦁💛

And when Lions work together, service happens!

Honoring a Life of Service 🦁💛🌎

On Saturday, May 2nd, members of the Greenbelt Lions Club had the honor of officiating a heartfelt Missing Lion Ceremony in memory of our beloved Lion Tim Edwards. Nearly 100 family members, friends, and fellow Lions gathered to celebrate a life so deeply rooted in service and compassion.

Representing the Greenbelt Lions Club were King Lion Trenda Rusher and Lion Margaret Boles, who joined Lion Tims’s wife, Lion Allita Irby, in paying tribute to a man whose commitment to community service never wavered. Lion Tim was remembered not only for his devotion to initiatives such as White Cane Days, Blood Drives, Vision Screenings, and our annual Holiday Gift Wrapping at Greenbelt Plaza Mall—but also for his leadership as a past King Lion of the Greenbelt Lions Club and his remarkable gift for fundraising in support of our mission.

Lion Tim didn’t just wear the Lions emblem—he truly lived what it stands for.

The ceremony concluded with a moving tribute as King Lion Trenda Rusher rang the bell three times, honoring Lion Tim’s legacy of Service, Fellowship, and Friendship.

Though he is no longer with us, his light continues to guide and inspire us all.

Rest in peace, Lion Tim. Your roar will forever echo in our hearts. 🦁💛🌎

Note: If you missed this Memorial Service, another one is scheduled on May 16, 2026, 1-3Pm; Lake of the Woods Church, 1 Church Lane, Locust Grove, VA 22508

On April 25th, Lions from District 22-C brought their signature service to Maryland Day at the University of Maryland. Partnering with students from the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences, Lions from the College Park, Damascus, Greenbelt, and Washington Midtown Clubs provided free vision, hearing, and preschool vision screenings to nearly 100 community members.

The Lions Community Outreach Foundation (LCOF) Health Screening Mobile Unit operated from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., welcoming families as they explored the lively campus event. Parents and children alike stopped by to take advantage of these important health services, making the day both impactful and engaging.

This strong collaboration between Lions and University of Maryland student volunteers created a meaningful day of service—truly a roaring Lions family affair.
