NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is home to the nation's largest organization of combined scientists, engineers and technologists. We build spacecraft and instruments, and invent new technology to study the Earth, the sun, our solar system, and the universe. To encourage free-flowing discussion while maintaining the decorum appropriate to a taxpayer-funded organization, we will moderate comments

using these guidelines:

Stay on topic. Other readers expect the comments about a post to deal with the topic at hand. If your comment is not relevant to the post, please post it as a Discussion topic elsewhere. Criticism of decision-making and operational management, including the names of the individuals involved, is legitimate. Criticism on a purely personal level is not. No sexually explicit or discriminatory material. Comments about politics and politicians must, like everything else, be on-topic and free from personal attacks." Direct messages will usually be replied to as soon as we. We'll do our best to get back to you if you have a question.

What does Mario have in common with supernova SN 2017egm?

🌟 Star power-up! Using Fermi, scientists found that the rare, unusually bright supernova was likely powered up by a supermagnetized neutron star born in the stellar collapse that started the explosion.

Reflecting on the past, ready for the future ✨

Engineers with the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope took one final look at the telescope's primary mirror, ensuring the observatory is in perfect shape and ready to explore the universe.

Next up? Packing Roman up and shipping to NASA's Kennedy Space Center for launch!

She's got a lot going on.

Spiral galaxy Messier 88, seen by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, is located about 63 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. This active galaxy is home to a supermassive black hole 100 million times larger than the Sun and is a member of the Virgo Cluster, a collection of more than a thousand galaxies held together by gravity.

That's one big baby!

New science from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope suggests some supermassive black holes are born big, rather than forming gradually within a galaxy - possible evidence for kinds of black holes that have been theorized but never before observed.

Austral autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place 🎵🍂

The Magallanes region of Chile is home to the southernmost temperate forests in the world. Landsat 9 saw the trees in their red and orange splendor during southern hemisphere fall on April 12.

Galaxies of a feather, we should stick together ✨

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope captured this image of galaxy cluster MACS J1141.6-1905 in visible and infrared light. Studying images like this helps researchers understand the physical nature of interactions at each cluster’s core.

Image description:
A cluster of galaxies dots the field of view. The cluster holds spiral and elliptical galaxies against a black background. A foreground star with diffraction spikes shines brightly toward the bottom, center-right of the image.
