We're getting ready for the LABOR DAY PARADE in HARRISVILLE! Join us Sunday, Sept. 6th as we support WORKERS OVER BILLIONAIRES while celebrating all of the wonderful professions represented in our area. Line-up on 6th Street at 12:30 for a 1pm start. Wear an outfit from your profession, R/W/B, or get one of our fabulous Proud Dems T-shirts available at our Headquarters on Main Street. Also at Headquarters, we will be having a Post Parade celebration immediately after with drinks, food and music. All are welcome to the parade and/or afterparty-Oscoda, Iosco and Alpena Dems, visiting family, kids, dogs, You name it. We are a big tent party and want to show we are a party of the people--celebrating the hard working Labor Force that is the true heart of America. 🇺🇸 (PS-remember to thank Unions for Labor Day! 💪)

Calling Alcona Dems to help with the Backpack Program for the Children of Ukraine! Our resident Angel, Mary Thomas, is pulling together backpacks filled with good cheer to send to kids in need in this war ravaged country. All you have to do is pick up a backpack, fill with some of the wonderful items already donated by Alcona Dems members, and add to it with a list of suggested items before returning Sept. 9-12 at Mary's house -or our Harrisville Headquarters. 12 backpacks have already gone out the door, but we have more. Call Mary @ 810-252-4198 with any questions, or stop by to pick up a pack and items (note changed pickup times) this Monday or Tuesday, (8/31 & 9/1) 10am-6pm at 105 N. Poor Farm Rd., Harrisville. We have the best members with the BIGGEST hearts. It's never to early to start working on spreading good cheer for the season, especially for kids. 🎁🎅

FRIDAY-AUG 28th! Not yet registered to vote? The Secretary of State will have a mobile office at the Alcona Senior Center on Barlow Rd. in Lincoln between 10-2 to get you set up. Kudos to Teresa McCurdy, and Alcona Dems members, for recognizing it was 106 years ago today that the 19th Amendment secured a woman's right to vote in America. With a display in front of our Headquarters, a period dress, and a walk down Main St., we recognized Michigan as one of the first three states in the country to ratify. It didn't come easy, and as a reminder, Michigan's general election is November 3rd. If you're not registered, go to Michigan.gov/Vote. And if you're inside the 14-day window before an election, you can still register in person at your clerk's office right up until 8pm on Election Day. Teresa's Grandmother and Great Aunt were suffragettes, and she reminds us women like them fought too hard for this important right to go unused. 🇺🇸

What a lively and productive monthly meeting for Alcona Dems. We have so much going on with the upcoming Labor Day Parade and after Party (happening Sunday, Sept. 6th), canvassing and postcard events every Thursday, 2-6, a Christmas backpack program for Ukrainian children, and more. And check it out-we have Abdul and Callie signs! Come visit us at our Harrisville Headquarters to say hi, pick up a sign, or see how you can get involved. Th-2-6/F&Sat 10-6/Sun 12-4. 🇺🇸

We have an action packed agenda covering everything from our canvassing and postcard writing events, to our Christmas Backpack drive for the Children of Ukraine, to the upcoming Labor Day Parade. It's been a busy week for Alcona Dems! Writing postcards and canvassing, communing at our Chew & Chat at the Bobcat in Greenbush, and Saturday, we had another bi-weekly rally in Harrisville. As election season heats up, it's going to get even busier, so join us in one of our many events. Getting in the action feels so much better than sitting at home doom scrolling!

Let's get ready to Rally! SATURDAY-AUG. 22nd @ 11:00 am to Noon is our biweekly protest/rally at the M 72/US 23 intersection in Harrisville. The Oscoda Township protest follows in front of the Oscoda Post Office from 12:15 to 1:30 pm. With mid-terms around the corner, let's make our voices heard to get our candidates over the finish line. If you're making new signs, top issues of the election are: Affordability, Health care for all, Ice Out, No Data Centers. Let's do this!! 💪🇺🇸

Alcona Dems are already working to get out the vote! Join us at our Harrisville Headquarters every Thursday, from 2-6, as we go out canvassing to talk to neighbors about our candidates, and write post cards. Never canvassed? We will put you with someone experienced and our Vice-Chair, Jenny, will be there to get you up to speed. Still not up for canvassing, but want to help? Drop in, hang out, and write postcards. We've got the cards and stamps. Let's do this!!💪🇺🇸
