Please be advised that City Hall and the Utility Office will be closed all day next Wednesday, September 9th, due to a scheduled power outage that is beyond our control.

🗓️ Schedule:

◾️Wednesday, 09/09: CLOSED

◾️Thursday, 09/10: Reopening at 8:00 AM (Normal business hours resume)

👉Online Services & Drop Box:

💦Utility payments can still be made online through our portal or placed in the night drop box outside the Utility Office. Payments submitted on Wednesday will be processed on Thursday morning.

Greencastle and local area residents: clear out your trash, tires, hazardous waste, and large household items at these upcoming free collection events!

1. CITY OF GREENCASTLE HEAVY TRASH & YARD WASTE DAY (this is for City of Greencastle Utility customers only)

▪When: Saturday, October 24, 2026

▪Who: Greencastle Municipal Utility Trash Customers (bring utility bill or flyer as proof) 🔸This flyer will be mailed out in September's utility bill.

🗑 Heavy Trash (8 AM – 12 PM): Drop off at Republic Services (525 W Columbia St).
👉Free items accepted: Furniture, mattresses, carpeting (tied in 3ft bundles), small construction debris, appliances/microwaves (limit 1), TVs (limit 2), and auto tires (limit 4). Self-unload event.

🌳Yard Waste (9:15 AM – 12 PM): Drop off at 2362 S Co Rd 250 W.

👉Free Yard Waste accepted: Bring your small limbs, clippings, and yard waste to dispose of for free.

2. ☣️WCSWD TOX-AWAY DAY ☣️

▪When: Saturday, September 12 | 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Rain or Shine)

▪Where: Parke Co. 4-H Fairgrounds, 1472 N U.S. 41, Rockville

▪Who: Putnam & Parke County residents (No businesses)

👉Free Items: Drive-thru collection for chemicals, lawn care products, cleaners, oil-based paint, auto fluids, batteries, electronics, computers, appliances, and non-controlled meds.

📺Fees & Limits: $20 for TVs. First 6 car/truck tires free ($2/each after).

❎Not Accepted: Latex paint (dry it at home first), alkaline batteries, ammo, or trash.

09/01/26 - 10:15 AM - UPDATE: The water leak has been repaired, and Percy Julian is now open for both north and south traffic (with the lane restriction for the construction still in place).

08/31/26 - 🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT: Percy Julian Dr. Closure 🚨

▪When: Starting tomorrow morning, Sept. 1st, immediately following the morning bus transfer.

▪Where: Percy Julian Dr. will close from Veteran's Memorial Hwy. to just south of Mill Pond Rd.

▪Why: A water leak was discovered under the road that needs repaired.

📍Please plan ahead for potential delays and consider alternate routes for your commute! 🚘

🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT: Indiana & Seminary Street Closures 🚧

📌Details:
▪When: Beginning on Monday, 08/31 to approximately 10/2

▪Where:
Indiana St. - between Walnut St. and Seminary St.
Seminary St. - between S. College Ave. to Indiana St.

▪Why:
Crews will be installing brand new water and sewer lines. These are some of the oldest utility lines in the City of Greencastle, and this critical upgrade is necessary to ensure reliable service for years to come.

▪Why a full-closure:
The water and sewer mains run right down the middle of the street, making a full closure necessary for the safety of the work crews and the efficiency of the project. The contractor has two crews working to get the project done as timely as possible.

▪How to navigate the closures:
All businesses in the area are STILL OPEN for business. All of the business have a back access to reach them if needed. The Fire Dept. has worked closely with the contractor to make sure fire services will not be impacted.
Popular St. (from S. College Ave. to S. Indiana St.) and S. College Ave. are open for traffic as well.

⌚️Please plan an alternate route and allow extra time for your commute. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve our city's infrastructure! 💧🛠️
